Position Summary:
The Event Manager and Special Projects Officer works to plan a large portfolio of high-quality events designed to engage the university with critical stakeholders and the communities we serve as well as build connections in the community. You will create events that provide an opportunity for connection between the President's office, university leadership, faculty and staff, current and future students, alumni, donors, elected officials, business and community leaders, media and various other community stakeholders, while at the same time, enhancing and advancing the institution's strategic priorities. You will also design and manage large-scale events (President's Signature Events) that serve to strengthen the University's reputation as a leading post-secondary institution in our province and beyond.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as Project Manager for events including local, national and international as well as President's Signature Events.
- Contribute to and coordinate communications including, but not limited to invites, promotions, special notices/updates, speaking notes.
- Coordinate and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
- Prepare and track annual budget as well as project budgets and reporting on the financial status.
- Assist with the strategy development related to advancing the community engagement portfolio.
- Liaise and collaborate with all levels of faculty and staff within the University.
- Other related duties as assigned. Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree combined with five years of event management.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge and experience with budget preparation and project management.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, leading and executing events.
- Experience managing and coordinating service providers.
- Demonstrated experience in developing event briefings and project evaluations.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication (verbal/written), public speaking and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with community stakeholders, alumni, students, staff, faculty and all levels of management.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Office software and a wide variety of complex databases and systems.
- Must have the ability to effectively manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
- Must have the proven ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and possess strong conflict resolution skills.
- Must be able to effectively lead and coordinate a planning team.
- Ability to create compose and edit a variety of written and electronic material with accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills including a proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, prioritize work and accomplish tasks correctly and on-time with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate methods to handle confidential material.
- Must be willing to accommodate periodic evening work as needed for University events. Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $60,172 - $81,196 Annually Status Term Work Hours
Monday - Friday 8:15am -4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work as required.
