POSITION SUMMARY

Under minimal supervision the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for assisting with the business systems needs/requirements of a project(s) and/or business area, and resolving systems related problems/issues in the assigned business area.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Identify and analyze information systems problems/issues for a project or business area, and develop/test systems solutions to problems.
  • Participate in project pre-planning meetings and document all information pertaining to business requirements.
  • Gather and document business requirements, functional and non-Functional specifications to aid in the development of new business processes and products with specific focus on regulatory reporting
  • Define objectives based on user needs, industry requirements, and an understanding of business rules.
  • Modify procedures and/or functions to solve application and business problems
  • Perform workflow analysis and implement changes brought about by new procedures and/or functionality.
  • Monitor daily operations and functionality of the application within production area, resolve production problems and errors for regulatory reporting and other as assigned
  • Monitor version control within various environments.
  • Ocassionaly consult with outside vendors for application specification and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with team members to determine work-arounds, data fixes and resolving application bugs.
  • Resolve or escalate issues and/or project changes to the Project Manager, as well as provide project status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Develop and maintain systems procedures and documentation as required (i.e. training materials, programs, manuals, tutorials, and help screens for end users).
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with business users to analyze reporting needs and functional requirements and deliver Business Requirements and Detailed Reporting Specifications.
  • Test system enhancements and products for discrepancies, and document relevant data in an accurate and timely manner as required.
  • Ensure testing of application for the final release into production
  • Develop, maintain, and produce reports and documents as required.
  • Provide support for users of information systems in assigned business area as required.
  • Provide support to both client and project team members both during the project life cycle and project post implementation phases.
  • Monitor daily operations and functionality of the Federated applications within production area, resolve any problems and errors.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge and understanding of company operations/procedures, and insurance industry trends/developments, to enhance the Systems analysis process.
  • Develop job skills and knowledge in order to adapt new techniques and perform assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT SETS YOU APART:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (i.e. Computer Science, Business Administration) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates with BSA experiencein a technology environment preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 year of experience in working with a cross functional team.
  • Knowledge of insurance, business, and technical areas; Property and Casualty Insurance experience an asset.
  • Proficient user-level knowledge of Microsoft Products (Windows XP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Sharepoint), Visio, Optimal Trace, and a willingness to learn new applications.
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting for insurance industry will be an added asset
  • Knowledge of the Federated Live System considered an asset.
  • Fluently bilingual (English / French) is a definite asset (a requirement in Quebec Region).
