Reporting to the Lead, Mining Solutions, the Communications Technician (known at Teck as Electronics Technician) is responsible for ensuring infrastructure requirements and planned and executed to advance RACE21? initiatives. This role currently follows a 4x4 days schedule with 12 hour shifts; however, is subject to change depending on operational requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Install and maintain electronic equipment, such as data radios, Wenco Pit Control equipment, GPS systems, PLC based control systems, field equipment, shovel payload systems, various communication devices and infrastructure, instrumentation, and machine monitoring systems
  • Develop standard methodologies, job procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines
  • Work with multidisciplinary group to pilot new technologies and processes throughout the development, installation, and monitoring phases
  • Provide training and mentorship as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-Secondary education in communications, electronics, instrumentation, industrial automation and controls, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with DC and AC analogue, digital drive control systems, and PLC programming is an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and service manuals
  • Ability to research new technologies and make recommendations for implementation, system upgrades, and improvements
  • Experience with installation and troubleshooting of computer hardware such as communication infrastructure like Wi-Fi, GPS, Auxiliary and Mine Intelligence systems (Carlson, Bench Manager), Tire Monitoring systems (Tyresense), and Equipment Health monitoring systems (MEMS)
  • Strong digital literacy, proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite®, with the ability to learn various types of software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Motivated, self-starter that is able to adapt and work independently or within a team
