JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Global Communications team is responsible for building and executing strategic communications plans that support Manulife's business goals, protect and enhance our trusted reputation, profile our company as a great place to work and drive aligned communications across multiple teams internationally.

We build integrated communications plans and incorporate a wide variety of internal, external, social and executive comms channels for optimal delivery of key messages. We focus on storytelling to bring our mission to life, and support our values and strategic priorities in everything we create.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Reporting to our VP of Global Communications, you will ensure the alignment of our communications strategy globally, and create messaging and plans that showcase our bold ambition to be the most digital, customer-centric leader in our industry, and drive employee engagement.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Direct a team of communications professionals in support of all projects that fall within your scope:Supporting leadership of our Global Wealth and Asset Management (GWAM) businesses, and all global functions (HR, legal, risk and compliance, finance, marketing, operations and technology)
  • As a key member of the global communications leadership team, you will use your ability to impact and influence others by partnering with other leaders, including other business segment communications leads (in Canada, US and Asia) in order to provide critical communications counsel and partnership
  • Utilize all relevant channels (Intranet, social media, email, video, (virtual) face to face and executive comms, to name a few) to ensure that all messages align to our company's mission and values
  • Act as the main advisor and partner to the VP of Global Communications, members of the ELT, and other members of the global communications team
  • Collaborate across all Communications segments and with other key partners to provide a strategic, innovative, consistent and thoughtful approach to communications and employee engagement
  • Work closely with key partners on complex issues with a sense of ownership, drive and urgency
  • Champion messaging integration and collaboration in support of enterprise-wide initiatives/priorities

Knowledge/Skills/Proficiencies/Education:

  • A graduate degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, or a related field, plus at least 12 years of relevant experience at a leadership level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, making you confident interacting with all levels of an organization, including individual contributors and senior leaders
  • A strong presentation delivery, with the ability to convey ideas and provide effective instruction
  • A willingness to roll your sleeves up to help develop and implement global communications and employee communications plans that are not only creative but that also drive our mission, business objectives and highlight our strategic priorities and successes
  • You actively and thoughtfully listen to and incorporate ideas from others to influence strategy and shape content
  • You are creative and skilled at identifying and seizing opportunities for Manulife to reach key audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and build consensus while working in a diverse, matrixed organizational structure
  • Able to anticipate issues and think proactively to resolve possible risks
  • You to manage complex projects with ease, delivering on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in diverse environments and cultures
  • Financial services communications experience is an asset
