Bigstone Health Commission in Wabasca, Alberta is seeking an experienced and competent Communications Liaison/Health Promoter to join our talented Health Team. This role will provide leadership and work collaboratively with the partners, participants, community and peers in identifying and prioritizing current and emerging health care and support needs to inform local planning activities; and identifying gaps in care and service approaches. The primary duties include, but are not limited to:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop the pathways to reach hard to reach members, to identify services and supports as needed
  • Engage with all members to provide primary care, support and harm reduction services
  • Assist members to First Nations culturally specific healing and psycho-social supports as required
  • This role is to link community members including: youth, adults, elders and homeless to services provided by Bigstone Health Commission

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Must have excellent organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Work in collaboration with staff
  • Ability to understand and speak Cree fluently

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in Health Promotion or related field
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher Outlook programs
  • Demonstrated experienced with project/program management and program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Ability to work flexible schedule that includes days, evenings and /or weekends
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the population health promotion model and determinant of health
  • Knowledge and awareness of First Nations communities and culture
  • Experience in working with partner organizations and funders
  • Demonstrated ability to support Indigenous Peer Leaders in providing health promotional outreach services.
