DESCRIPTION :

Reporting to the Executive Director, Provincial Programs & Physician Communications, the Director of Communications (APL) holds provincial communications leadership responsibilities and is a key member of Alberta Health Services Community Engagement & Communications leadership team, as well as APL's leadership team. The Director works closely with the Executive Leadership Team of APL in crafting internal and external communications for staff and stakeholders. The Director is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the communications strategy and activities in support of the overall mission, vision and strategic goals of Alberta Health Services and APL. Accountabilities also include stakeholder engagement planning, a social media strategy, issues management, media relations, leadership & employee communications, community relations, proactive stories, and marketing, PR and advertising. The Director is responsible for overseeing standard communications tools for APL such as newsletters, memos, bulletins, web updates (public pages and intranet), and other organization-wide communications. The Director also assists with development of major accountability documents for APL such as annual reports and business plans. Location: The location of this position is negotiable.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or a directly related degree. Eight years of senior communications experience, at least five of it at a leadership level in a complex, geographically diverse organization (public or private sector). A communications generalist with strengths in strategic communications planning, media relations and issues, as well as demonstrated abilities in stakeholder, government and employee communications.
