MANAGER, COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is seeking a talented communications professional with a passion for making a difference and a desire to live in one of the nicest communities in all of BC. Bordered by rugged mountains on one side and the Georgia Strait on the other, the Sunshine Coast is situated on a peninsula between Howe Sound and Jervis Inlet in the traditional territory of the shíshálh and Skwxwú7mesh First Nations. Known for its mild winters, beautiful surroundings, arts, recreation, culture, and home to about 30,000 year-round residents, the Sunshine Coast is not only a preferred tourist destination, it is a great place to live.

The SCRD is currently inviting applications for the position Manager, Communications & Engagement. This position is responsible for the planning, co-ordination, and control of the SCRD Communications and Engagement, overseeing internal and external communications. Manages the communications strategy aimed at advancing the SCRD's positive image through media relations, online communications, community engagement initiatives, and promotional opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or a related discipline from a recognized public institution, with preference given to a Master's degree.
  • Five (5) years' related experience, ideally in a local government setting, including at least one year of supervisory experience, along with experience in building relationships with First Nations and community partners.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in leading, managing, coaching and mentoring staff, along with managing projects from strategy through to planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Professional certification in communications through the International Association for Public Participation plus membership in the Canadian Public Relations Society would be an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
