Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centred clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
The Manitoba health system has seven health service delivery organizations (SDOs) across the province to serve the health needs of our population including CancerCare Manitoba, the Northern Regional Health Authority, the Interlake Eastern Regional Health Authority, Southern Health-Santé Sud, Prairie Mountain Health, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health.
We have an opportunity for a regional lead communications in Prairie Mountain Health who will develop and monitor effective strategies to address trends, issues and changes in the operating environment related to best practices in communications to ensure strategic and operating goal achievement. Within Prairie Mountain Health this leadership role leads the teams providing communications services, French language services, Indigenous health services, interpreter services, accessibility services and volunteer services within the SDO and provides direct support to the Board of Directors including support for policies, accreditation and public engagement.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of the SDO, the regional lead communications will:
- Manage, lead and contribute to a team that support enterprise communications for the SDO, including activities to develop and maintain organizational reputation, staff engagement, community engagement, organizational publications and media management
- Provide communications support to senior leaders and lead the implementation of communications and plans aligned with the strategic and operating goals of the SDO
- Collaborate on provincial planning and communication goals by participating in activities that require close coordination with Shared Health and with the Government of Manitoba
- Develop and monitor effective strategies to address trends, issues and changes in the operating environment related to best practices in communications and ensure strategic and operational goal achievement including innovations in service delivery and advancing technology
- Lead organizational change related to communications including developing and implementing organizational policy, procedures, standards and practices
- Manage risk related to communications for the approval of the executive team
The ideal candidates for the position will bring:
- 5 years of progressive management experience leading enterprise-wide communications functions and public relations in a large publicly funded enterprise, preferably in healthcare, including:
- 5 years of experience providing public presentations and coordinating media management, preparing speaking notes, public releases and internal communication for staff
- 5 years of experience building and leading a high-performing communications team
- A post-secondary degree in a communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related discipline from an accredited educational institution
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate
- Holders of the Accredited in Public Relations designation from the Canadian Public Relations Society or equivalent are preferred
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated senior leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework
- Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg
- Interruptions to respond to questions are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled
- Travel throughout the province requiring a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of a personal motor vehicle
