DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (hereafter “SNJM”) is a Catholic religious institute founded in 1843. In a dynamic and innovative change period, the Congregational Leadership Team (CLT) is seeking to hire a Director of Communications at its 15-person General Administration office in Longueuil, QC.

OVERVIEW

The General Administration of the SNJM is seeking an experienced, fully-bilingual organizational communications professional, with a wide range of competencies. The Director of Communications is responsible to the Leadership Team and works with the current communications personnel to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate a comprehensive communications plan. The communications office will support internal and external communication.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of the SNJM Congregational Leadership Team (CLT), with of the oversight of the Executive Director (ED) of the SNJM General Administration (GA), the Director of Communications will:

  • Support the philosophy, goals, objectives, bilingual functioning and programs of the CLT.
  • In collaboration with the CLT, develop a comprehensive GA communications plan.
  • Develop a social media strategy and maintain up-to-date content on the Website, Facebook, etc. in concert with staff and Leadership.
  • Serve in an advisory role in relation to communications and public relations, including press releases as needed.
  • Develop appropriate media, newsletters, surveys, forms, etc. in collaboration with the GA Graphic Designer.
  • Proofread texts, write articles, create headlines and photos captions for CLT publications on print or digital platforms in concert with graphics design staff.
  • Prepare and manage the Communications Department budget.
  • Collaborate with Province communications personnel throughout the Congregation.
  • Collaborate in the organization of online and in-person events.
  • In collaboration with other staff, ensure translation of documents into languages used by the Congregation. Assist in translation of documents as needed.
  • Collaborate in the coordination of photo and video shoots, and audio recordings.
  • Provide oversight the work of vendors for print, web and video projects.
  • Be familiar with the various religious and secular media outlets and networks.
  • Perform any other assigned duties

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

To represent our SNJM mission optimally, we are looking for a person of reflection and action, who is mission-oriented and who possesses the following skills:

  • Strong French and English writing skills.
  • Proficiency in spoken English and French.
  • University degree, preferably in communications, arts or the humanities.
  • Wide range of professional communications skills and competencies. Experience with religious institutions and/or non-profit organizations would be a plus.
  • Ability to create and to maintain effective working relationships with constituencies motivated by a broad range of interests.
  • Capacity to partake in a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to move projects from inception to completion.
  • Competence within Windows, IOS and Android environments.
  • Proficiency using Office, and familiarity using Adobe Creative Suite and other software programs related to communications.

CONDITIONS

Full Time Position 35 hours a week.
