Your Mission:

As our Senior Communications and Engagement Specialist, you will be the voice of Innovarium, sharing our stories of progress and engaging others in our mission. You will work closely with the Director of Marketing Communications and the PHC Communications & Public Affairs team to develop and deliver captivating communications and engagement initiatives that build excitement, understanding, and support for our work.

This position researches and develops a broad understanding of important issues, and effectively anticipates, plans for and manages issues. Works with the Director, leaders of the elements that make up Innovarium and PHC Communications and Public Affairs to keep the parties apprised of day-to-day innovation communications, and concerns and issues raised by stakeholders and interested parties, and with PHC communications team, senior executive, PHC program/services staff to identify and develop proactive content. In partnership with the PHC Communications and Public Affairs team, the position is responsible for issues and crisis management relating to Innovarium and ensures adequate risk assessment and reputation management and that strategies and initiatives are in keeping with PHC communications policies and strategic directions.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND EDUCATION

What you Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience developing and implementing strategic, integrated communication and engagement programs, ideally in a health care, research or innovation environment
  • Exceptional written and oral communication abilities with a flair for storytelling and a keen eye for detail
  • Exceptional digital marketing skills
  • Proven ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences
  • Strong understanding of public/stakeholder engagement principles and practices (IAP2 training is a plus)
  • Track record of building productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Solid knowledge of communication best practices, issues management, and reputation management
  • Excellent project management and planning skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Highly organized and self-motivated with a positive attitude and customer-service mindset
  • Proficient in MS Office, digital media tools, and website content management
  • Experience or interest in health care innovation is a definite asset

Candidates with experience in the following areas will be given preference:

  • Development of communications and engagement strategies targeting multi-disciplinary internal and external stakeholders, especially related to capital infrastructure projects in a municipal or provincial government, Crown Corporation or health authority environment;
  • Management of large, complex projects and related issues; and
  • Coaching internal practitioners as well as teams.

Experience in public affairs, community relations or stakeholder engagement leadership roles, is also desirable. A certificate in Foundations in Public Participation from the International Association for Public Participation or similar would be considered an asset.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your Day to Day:

  • Executing a communication, marketing and stakeholder engagement strategy aligned with Innovarium's objectives
  • Creating and curating compelling multi-channel content (web, social, video, print) that highlights our accomplishments and impact
  • Establishing strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including staff, physicians, researchers, industry partners, donors, government representatives, and community organizations
  • Coordinating and facilitating meetings, events, and consultations to foster productive dialogue and gather valuable input from stakeholders
  • Providing strategic advice and support to integrate public and stakeholder engagement into planning and decision-making processes
  • Monitoring and analyzing stakeholder feedback to identify trends, concerns, and opportunities
  • Collaborating with PHC Communications to ensure adequate issues management, reputation management, and brand alignment
  • Supporting the planning and execution of media relations activities to secure positive coverage
  • Contributing to the development and management of the Innovarium website and social channels
  • Assisting with budget development and adherence for communication initiatives
  • Continuously evaluating and optimizing communication and engagement approaches based on metrics and best practices
