Dairy Farmers of Canada is the national policy, lobbying and promotional organization representing Canadian dairy producers. DFC strives to create stable conditions for the dairy sector in our country. It also seeks to maintain policies that promote the sustainability of Canadian dairy production and promote dairy products and their health benefits. Dairy farmers have set a goal of net-zero emissions from farm-level dairy production by 2050. We are currently seeking a Specialist, Social Media to join our team based in Ottawa or Montreal.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communications, the Specialist, Social Media develops social media plans for various audiences, as well as recommends, builds, deploys, and executes appropriate communication strategies for various social media platforms. In addition to being an expert on the various platforms, their usage patterns and reporting tools, the incumbent specializes in content curation, managing online interactions and advancing positive exposure opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Content
  • Research, curate, develop, create, and publish content (texts, photos, videos, gifs, stories, etc.) on the organization’s corporate social networks, professional accounts or any other digital platform;
  • Maintain detailed editorial and social media calendars in collaboration with DFC’s departments;
  • Ensure efficient collaboration between the Marketing and Public Affairs’ departments, as well as all other DFC departments, DFC members, stakeholders and key agencies;
  • Draft social media assets, which could include but not limited to, marketing and advertisement products including but not limited to recipe-based content, calendars, toolkits, ads key messages, newsletters, etc. that reflect the organization’s strategic objectives, while respecting DFC’s brand guidelines – as assigned;
  • For Public Affairs, assets could include but not limited to toolkits, key messages, newsletters etc.
  • For Marketing, assets could include marketing and advertisement products like recipe-based content, calendar etc.
  • Attend/read all briefings on audience research, develop a clear understanding of DFC’s target audiences, and ensure that all content reflects this knowledge; and
  • Assist in producing content to support various internal requirements as required.

 

  • Social Networks
  • Monitor and report on trends relevant to DFC priority issues to identify opportunities for engagement
  • Executes social engagement by monitoring, moderating, and encouraging conversations on all assigned platforms, responding to consumer and producer inquiries as needed
  • Manage subscriber databases including opt-in and opt-out requests;
  • Create organizational tools (could include but not be limited to response guides, social media calendars, playbooks, toolkits and reports);
  • Keep abreast of new trends in social media, influencers and digital analytics tools and apply principle of continuous improvement;
  • Understanding of paid advertising tools within Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google and other social media channels, pragmatic digital advertising, traditional ad buying, and analytics tools;
  • Lead the development and execution of geotargeted campaigns in support of DFC’s advocacy activities as required; and
  • Ensure the DFC brand is appropriately represented in all social networking initiatives in order to project a positive image and promote the brand, increasing DFC’s positive exposure.

 

  • Evaluation & Development
  • Establish social media Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide analysis on performance to leadership. Make recommendations as required;
  • Identify social media content, trends, and discussions that may require DFC to take actions and prepare recommendations on key messages accordingly;
  • Develop and implement strategies to boost DFC’s reach amongst targeted audiences as well as members’ engagement;
  • Supports strategic planning and tactical development, providing recommendations on actions and metrics on results from social media campaigns;
  • Analyze and optimize social media posts, campaigns, budgets, expenditures and tactics based on results, making recommendations as required;
  • Closely monitor established deadlines and
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts on content planning in cross-departmental engagement as well as creating and leveraging organizational tools to elevate DFC’s position with decision-makers;
  • Report on emerging discussions, themes and levels of engagement as necessary to contribute to issues management responses; and
  • Determine and help identify new opportunities and propose strategies which would ensure DFC capitalizes on them.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English and/or French, including editing and proofreading;
  • Detail-oriented, organized and diligent in preparation;
  • Ability to produce creative copy analyze and synthesize information quickly and accurately;
  • Savvy, solutions-focused, with the ability to think creatively;
  • Ability to adapt to change and uncertainty;
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments and projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines;

  • Ability to prioritize and make necessary decisions aligned with leadership direction;
  • Self-motivated, energetic, collaborative, and proactive; a team player who can positively and productively impact strategic and tactical goals and objectives; and
  • Good command of graphic design programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Canva, and knowledge of content management systems, such as Drupal.

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Communications, Advertising or other related field;
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in other comparable role(s);
  • Experience in social listening, community management, media monitoring
  • Demonstrated knowledge of graphic design and visual communication tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams/Zoom, SharePoint; and eager to learn other platforms as needed;
  • Experience in project management, the dairy sector, the food and beverage industry, agriculture, and/or consumer packaging are considered assets;
  • Experience in Canadian politics and/or in a pan Canadian advocacy association is considered a strong asset; and
  • Bilingualism in both official languages considered a strong asset.

 

Working Environment

Dairy Farmers of Canada offers flexible work arrangements for a variety of needs, including hours of work. Candidates and incumbents are encouraged to disclose accommodation requirements to People & Culture.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Travel is required to attend meetings primarily within Canada. Travel should not exceed 10% of total working time.
