Position: General Sales Manager (Ford Dealership)

Position Summary
The General Sales Manager (GSM) is a key leadership role responsible for driving performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction across the New and Used Vehicle Sales Departments. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the GSM will lead a team of Sales Managers, Consultants, and Coordinators to achieve sales volume targets and ensure an exceptional customer experience aligned with Ford's highest standards.
The ideal candidate is a results-driven leader who can foster a collaborative, accountable, and process-oriented sales culture through hands-on engagement and strategic planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Development
Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate Sales Managers and Sales Consultants to meet performance targets in both new and pre-owned sales.
Promote a high-performance, team-based environment with strong morale, motivation, and accountability.
Conduct structured weekly sales training sessions focusing on current incentives, sales techniques, product knowledge, CRM usage, and closing strategies.
Lead regular manager meetings to review performance metrics and implement action plans to meet or exceed objectives.
Sales Strategy & Execution
Develop and execute short- and long-term sales strategies to achieve monthly and annual forecasts.
Monitor and enforce adherence to the full sales process, including CRM (eLead) usage, from initial contact to delivery and post-sale follow-up.
Actively engage with customers during showroom visits, ensuring a seamless and personalized experience from entry to delivery.
Collaborate with the Business Office to ensure timely and accurate completion of paperwork, and proper presentation and sale of F&I products (warranty, accessories, insurance, etc.).
Process & Performance Management
Establish clear, documented processes and measurable goals for the sales team aligned with dealership objectives.
Monitor daily sales activity and ensure accurate CRM data entry for all customer touchpoints (walk-ins, calls, online leads).
Ensure the timely delivery of all sold vehicles within a 72-hour window.
Inventory, Merchandising & Advertising
Oversee inventory management to maintain optimal levels, mix, and days' supply of new and pre-owned vehicles.
Ensure proper lot and showroom presentation, merchandising, and vehicle readiness.
Participate in advertising, promotions, and digital merchandising, including website content and AutoTrader listings.
Customer Satisfaction
Take full ownership of the dealership's Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) performance.
Drive a customer-centric culture, ensuring every customer interaction exceeds expectations.
Actively participate in customer engagement, follow-ups, and delivery experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 years of progressive automotive sales leadership experience, preferably in a Ford dealership.
Proven success managing a high-performing sales team in a fast-paced retail environment.
Strong working knowledge of CRM platforms (eLead preferred), dealership operations, and the full sales cycle.
Exceptional communication, leadership, coaching, and organizational skills.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and customer focus.
