Position Summary:

The Students' Union is seeking a creative, motivated, and organized University of Alberta student or recent graduate to join our Marketing & Communications team as Coordinator - Social Media with a strong focus on videography and video content creation.

In this role, you will help bring UASU events, services, advocacy, and student life to life on social media through compelling short-form video content (e.g. Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts), while supporting overall social media strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Creation & Videography

  • Plan, film, edit, and publish engaging video content for UASU social media channels, with an emphasis on storytelling and campus life.
  • Attend UASU events, campaigns, and initiatives to capture photos and video footage for promotion and engagement.
  • Work with other student staff, UASU departments, and campus partners to source video opportunities.
  • Maintain a consistent visual style aligned with UASU brand guidelines.

Social Media Coordination

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of UASU social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn).
  • Write captions, schedule posts, and engage with online audiences.
  • Monitor trends in social media, especially video trends, and suggest innovative content ideas.
  • Track analytics to help measure reach and engagement.

Team & Administrative Support

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team on larger campaigns and content calendars.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions.
  • Support occasional photography or written content projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently enrolled University of Alberta undergraduate or graduate student or a recent graduate of a University of Alberta undergraduate program.
  • Proven experience in videography - comfortable using camera equipment (DSLR, mirrorless, smartphone), editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of short-form video platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts).
  • Familiarity with social media trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Excellent storytelling, creative thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to work independently.

Assets:

  • Experience with photography.
  • Graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Knowledge of the University of Alberta campus and student life.

Work Conditions:

  • Part-time, approximately 10-20 hours/week (flexible around academic schedule).
  • Primarily in-person on campus with some remote work possible.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work to cover UASU events.
  • Access to video equipment can be provided, but use of personal equipment is also welcomed.
