As a Residential Underwriter, you will be accountable for high quality underwriting of personal property insurance policies in compliance with company underwriting guidelines, while acting as a resource to other Underwriters. Using your experience, attitude, and industry knowledge, you will analyze, assess, evaluate, and determine acceptance of risks at all levels of complexity. You will have the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment and be a positive influence within our work setting.

Responsibilities

Underwrite new business, renewals, and policy changes according to established guidelines and objectives to comply with the underwriting standards.

Develop appropriate solutions for moderately complex underwriting problems.

Develop, maintain, and manage positive broker relationships, including broker visits as required.

Respond to broker requests and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Assess, accept, and decline submissions, within assigned underwriting authority.

Request, review, and take appropriate action on Loss Control Inspection Reports.

Ability to read, interpret and understand policy wordings.

Provide technical support to brokers.

Participate in insurance industry functions and events in support of building broker relations and continually developing your skills.

What You Bring to This Role

Minimum of 3-5 years of direct personal lines residential underwriting experience or direct insurance experience.

Proven decision-making and analytical skills.

Exceptional customer service and ability to negotiate and explain key points.

Excellent verbal and written communication.

Strong knowledge of computers, MS Office programs and the ability to learn new software with ease.

Experience with using Guidewire and/or Policy Auditing is considered an asset.

You are professional and courteous in all interactions, whether with policyholders, brokers, or co-workers.

You perform well in a busy operation, prioritize, and remain calm under pressure.

You are a team player who makes work fun for those working around you and with you.
