Communications and Marketing Manager

Who we are:

Saskatoon Public Schools is the largest school division in Saskatchewan with more than 28,000 students and upwards of 3,300 professional and support staff in 47 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, Whitecap Dakota partnership school and one associate school.

The role:

The Communications and Marketing Manager provides division-wide communication and marketing advice to senior levels of the organization including Administrative Council, Principals and Vice-Principals in the areas of issues management, reputation management, public relations, media relations, and strategic communications planning. The Communications and Marketing Manager is also responsible for implementing division-wide communication and marketing policies, practices, procedures and plans and helping to promote the strategic plan of the organization.

What you will do:

· Support senior administration with the news media and acts as a spokesperson for Saskatoon Public Schools.

· Manage media access to schools and distribution of external materials to schools.

· Develop, implement and monitor appropriate communication policies and plans in order to support the strategic plan of Saskatoon Public Schools.

· Monitor the development and dissemination of news and publicity concerning Saskatoon Public Schools.

· Design, write and produce print and electronic material intended for internal and external audiences.

· Train, mentor and supervise communication, marketing and graphic arts staff.

· Responsible for crisis communications involving severe weather and education continuity planning.

· Overall content manager for the division's website.

· Consult on new media and web-based communication tools for both internal and external division use.

· Develop and maintain the marketing plan to promote the Saskatoon Public Schools brand.

What you will bring:

· Degree or diploma in communications, or journalism and at least five years' experience working in the field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

· Strong media relations skills and an in-depth understanding of the media in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan.

· Superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to make effective public presentations.

· Strong organizational and time management skills, along with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

· Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with groups and individuals external to the organization.

· Ability to think strategically and see the big picture in which the organization functions.

· Ability to coach and train others on positive communication and/or marketing strategies and media presence.

· A strong belief in the value of public education.

What you can expect:

We offer a salary range of $98,467 - $115,848 with a 37.5-hour work week plus a full range of benefits, including extended health care, dental, group life insurance, vacation and other paid days of leave.
