Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Director, Web Development is responsible for the effective planning, organization, and operation of High Tide's eCommerce technology infrastructure.

The Director, Web Development oversees UI/UX project coordination and application of all e - commerce tech stack, resource management, supervision of staff, as well as communication with the executive team, business unit leaders, and end users. Responsibilities include directing all E- commerce operations to meet customer requirements as well as the support and maintenance of existing applications and development of new technical solutions across all High Tide Infrastructure in Canada, USA and Europe. The Director, Web Development is a pivotal role responsible for driving and managing the company's online sales and digital presence. This role demands a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of e-commerce platforms like Shopify, WordPress, and Magento, as well as programming skills to enhance and innovate the e-commerce experience.

Specific Responsibilities

This is a critical role in High Tide's continued success and growth. The role is accountable for the following:

• E commerce Platform Expertise: Proficient in managing and optimizing e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, WordPress (with WooCommerce), and Magento. Responsible for leveraging these platforms to their full potential in alignment with business goals. Lead and mentor a team of skilled developers in creating and maintaining e-commerce websites across platforms like Magento, WooCommerce, and Shopify.
• Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive digital strategy, incorporating insights from market analysis, customer behavior, and technological advancements. Oversee all aspects of e-commerce website development, including innovation, improvements, and maintenance.
• Website Development and Management: Oversee the technical aspects of the website, including custom development on platforms like Shopify, Magento and WordPress. Ensure seamless integration of various functionalities and plugins. Implement cutting-edge technologies, including AI, to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
• Technical Proficiency: Employ programming skills in languages (not limited to) such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP to enhance website functionality and user experience. Utilize understanding of API integrations for system connections. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology development with business goals.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze website traffic and sales data through advanced analytics tools. Make informed decisions based on KPIs and ROI analysis.
• Team Leadership and Development: Lead the e-commerce team, emphasizing skill development in e-commerce platforms, programming, in Head office and remote office.
• Industry Trends: Stay updated with the latest trends in e-commerce technology, platform updates, and digital marketing strategies. Stay on top of technology trends and ensure that all E commerce practices adhere to regulatory standards of the regions, including ensuring data privacy and protection laws of Canada, USA, and Europe are complied with;
• Engage with all parts of the business and gather feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology;
• Analyze complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommends technical solutions;
• Evaluate and assess new AI tools in the market to increase efficiency in business and e-commerce processes
• Assist on other projects or special initiatives as required.
• Budget and Vendor Management: Efficiently manage the e-commerce budget and collaborate with external vendors and technology partners to enhance e-commerce capabilities. Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring high-quality outcomes. Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements, applying them to our platforms to maintain a competitive edge.
• Industry Trends: Stay updated with the latest trends in e-commerce technology, platform updates, and digital marketing strategies. Stay on top of technology trends and ensure that all E commerce practices adhere to regulatory standards of the regions, including ensuring data privacy and protection laws of Canada, USA, and Europe are complied with;

Desired Candidate Abilities and Experience

Given the role this individual will play in High Tide's continued growth and success, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following education, experience, and personal characteristics:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field (graduate degree a plus).
• Minimum 8-10 years direct work experience in an E-commerce operations role overseeing web development, management and related customer service with at least five years at a leadership level;
• Knowledge of programming concepts, software development cycles, and associated tools and platforms,
• Strong programming skills and familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
• Proven track record in e-commerce, and team leadership.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Experience:

• Proficiency in PHP, especially for Magento and WooCommerce development.
• Strong experience with Shopify's Liquid programming language.
• Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI and machine learning implementations in e-commerce.
• Experience with database technologies like MySQL.
• Knowledge of API integration, especially for e-commerce platforms.
• Understanding of SEO best practices and their implementation in e-commerce.
• Proficient in version control systems, such as Git.
