We are an organization with two front doors - the Wilder Institute and the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. The Wilder Institute is a registered charity focused on wildlife conservation and bringing benefits to both nature and people. As a non-profit organization, our critical wildlife conservation work is made possible by the generosity of individuals, corporate donors, and government investment, as well as administrative and operational support through the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.

Marketing Strategist for the Wilder Institute brand! The preferred candidate is a professional who can develop and execute marketing plans and sales opportunities that gather insights, attract leads, improve sales and drive demand generation.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Marketing Strategist, Wilder Institute will play a crucial role in promoting our mission, raising awareness about conservation efforts, and driving engagement among our target audience. The Marketing Strategist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing campaigns that align with our organization's goals, values, and initiatives. Their creative and analytical skills will be essential in crafting compelling messages, leveraging various marketing channels, and measuring the impact of their efforts.

Salary: $72,000 - $85,000

What you will do:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop comprehensive marketing strategies that support the conservation organization's mission, objectives, and values. Align marketing initiatives with broader conservation goals.
  • Audience Research: Conduct research to understand target audiences, their behavior, preferences, and demographics. Use this data to inform marketing strategies and messages.
  • Brand Management: Maintain and promote a strong and consistent brand identity that reflects the organization's values and goals.
  • Campaign Management: Plan and execute marketing campaigns across various channels such as social media, email marketing, SEO, paid advertising, and partnerships. Ensure consistent messaging and branding.
  • Data Analysis: Monitor the performance of marketing campaigns and initiatives. Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven improvements.
  • Advocacy and Fundraising: Collaborate with development team to integrate marketing efforts into donor acquisition and retention strategies. Develop and implement advocacy campaigns to influence policy decisions related to conservation.
  • Content Development: Create and curate engaging content that educates, inspires, and motivates audiences to support conservation efforts in partnership with internal subject matter experts. Content will be used in collateral, website and campaign executions.
  • Budget Management: Manage marketing budgets effectively, allocating resources to maximize impact and ROI.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 6 to 8 years experience in a Marketing role.
  • Proven experience in strategy and campaign management.
  • Passion for conservation and a deep understanding of environmental issues.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an easily digestible manner.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media, email marketing, SEO, and analytics.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to develop innovative marketing ideas.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in measuring and analyzing marketing performance.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office based with long periods working at a computer
  • Some lifting (heavy boxes, signs, tables, etc.)
  • May work evenings and weekends
  • May involve long periods of standing

The Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is a no smoking environment including vaping.
