Now Hiring - Junior Graphic Designer (Contract)

NAITSA is a non-profit organization that exists to provide services, representation, and leadership to students enrolled in credit and apprenticeship programs at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Our Communications team works hard to support all departments within NAITSA, as students count on us to keep them informed on campus. We are seeking a Junior Graphic Designer to join our team on a temporary basis. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, enthusiastic about all things design, and will bring their unique ideas to the table.

Reporting to the design team lead, the responsibilities of this position will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Collaborate with the graphic design team to plan, design, and create press-ready materials that effectively communicate NAITSA's services and supports to the NAIT student body.
  • Incorporate art direction and feedback from the graphic design team into final design drafts.
  • Design for a variety of mediums - both digital and print (i.e., posters, promotional items, signage, flyers, etc.)
  • Create and edit graphics, illustrations, and layouts
  • Understand and adhere to NAITSA's brand guidelines when creating or revising design projects; maintain brand consistency across all projects.
  • Work efficiently and independently within predetermined timelines; seek feedback from the senior design team as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in graphic design or related discipline (or working towards completion)
  • Proven design capabilities as demonstrated through a portfolio
  • Intermediate skill with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of print processes and basic web design would be considered an asset

Location: NAIT Students' Association, 11762 106 St NW, Room O108, Edmonton, AB

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Note: This position is subject to approval of funding from the Canada Summer Jobs 2024 program. This is a temporary full-time position expected to begin approximately May 15, 2024 and end August 15, 2024. To be an eligible youth participant of the Canada Summer Jobs program, the successful candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee status;
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
