Manager, Communications & Events (Remote - GTA Preferred)

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Manager, Communications & Events is a new role that is responsible for coordinating and overseeing CARI's key member offerings and services related to both communications and events. The primary roles and responsibilities are as follows:

Communications

The Manager of Communications & Events is also responsible for developing and implementing CARI's communications plan, promoting CARI's brand, and preparing and distributing both internal and external communications products across all platforms:

  • Manages and maintain CARI's website, social media channels, member database and Contact Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Handles general inquiries from members, the public, and the press
  • Promotes the Association's brand and keeps members informed to achieve CARI's strategic priorities and grow the membership base.
  • Designs, writes, and distributes all CARI's internal and external communications, including but not limited to e-newsletters, emergency bulletins, and regulatory compliance notices, ensuring they reach the proper audience in the language of preference.
  • Implements CARI's communications plan to achieve the Association's goals as they pertain to reaching the membership and external audiences.
  • Builds awareness amongst members of CARI's cost-saving services, events, advocacy work and other activities.
  • Plans and executes social media strategy across platforms to communicate core values and expand membership.
  • Supports the President & CEO with preparation of presentations, speeches and key messages for media interviews and advocacy.
  • Assists with organization and execution of Board meetings, including presenting on Communications and Events updates and taking minutes.

Events

The Manager of Communications & Events is the primary contact for service providers, sponsors, and exhibitors for CARI's events, and is often the first line of contact with members and prospective members seeking information about CARI:

  • Plans and produces three national events each year (Annual Convention, Summer Event, and Consumers' Night), and other events as required.
  • Ensures well-functioning events that provide value to members and encourage new membership.
  • Receives, records, and allocates all invoices pertaining to events and sends to President and accountant for approval and timely payment.
  • Receives, records, allocates, and deposits all membership dues, event and sponsorship revenues, advertising revenues, partnership service revenues.
  • Engages in negotiations with vendors and partners to secure optimal representation and agreements.
  • Organizes creative brainstorming sessions to shape the vision, aesthetics, and essential elements of each event.
  • Efficiently manages sponsorship and partnership contracts and activities to boost brand visibility, recognition, and activation.
  • Coordinates efforts with internal and external stakeholders including creative agencies, designers, content creators etc.
  • Manages the budget allocated to events and effectively measures key performance indicators (KPIs) or return on investment (ROI).
  • Conducts comprehensive quantitative and qualitative event analyses to extract valuable insights for future improvements.
  • Stays at the forefront of industry trends, ensuring the highest quality of event concepts and execution for virtual, in-person, and hybrid events.
  • Maintains membership database for dues invoicing and ensures information is kept up to-date.
  • Develops and executes marketing strategies for all Association events and handles all real-time event coverage.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree, preferably in Communications, Public Relations, or Event Management with a minimum of 7 years of communications experience, 5 years of event related experience.
  • Prior experience working for an association or member-focused organization would be an asset.
  • An expert at writing, proofreading and editing with proven experience in planning, developing and delivering strategic communications.
  • Adept at operating with a high degree of autonomy, a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to build relationships and establish rapport with others.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as an ability to communicate and work well with the other remote staff.
  • Highly organized with superior project management skills and proven ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong social skills and a ?customer service? approach to member engagement.
  • Efficient time-management and the ability to work to deadlines, and marked attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of social media and website management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and experienced with digital communications tools and know how to leverage them to their full capacity.
  • Experience with both earned and paid media is an asset.
  • Graphic design skills are an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French an asset.

Other

  • This job is work-from-home but requires occasional travel for events and meetings.
  • Hours are 9:00am-5:00pm but occasional overtime is required, especially in the lead-up to events.
