Reports to: Director, Public Affairs and Communications

Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs and Communications (PAC), the Communications Advisor (Social Media), is responsible for providing strategic social media and communications advice, applying knowledge and skills to CCSA's day-to-day operations to increase the reach and impact of the organization's work, and contributing to CCSA's public affairs and stakeholder engagement functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Social Media Communications

  • Be the team's specialist in social media writing, planning, monitoring and engagement
  • Contribute to CCSA's overall strategic communications plan through social media, including supporting outreach strategies, specific projects, and events and activities
  • Actively participate in project teams to provide social media and communications advice, including challenges and opportunities to drive forward corporate priorities

Brand and Thought Leadership Management

  • Develop, implement and distribute social media materials to support CCSA research and knowledge products
  • Work closely with subject-matter experts and communications advisors to proactively seek out social media opportunities to demonstrate CCSA's knowledge and leadership
  • Provide support and advice to ensure that all social media activities reinforce and leverage CCSA's positioning and brand
  • Develop innovative new approaches to the creation and dissemination of social media

Social and Digital Media

  • Create social media strategies that link CCSA's issues with government priorities at the federal, provincial and territorial levels
  • Use social media as a tool to market websites, reports and events
  • Write for diverse audiences and social media platforms
  • Create and manage social media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
  • Develop relevant content to reach CCSA's various target audiences
  • Create, curate and manage all published content (images, video and written)
  • Plan, execute and monitor paid campaigns across social media platforms targeting specific audiences, and report on final results
  • Use analytics tools to measure success of social media activity, create summary reports, and break down data and findings to provide evidence-based advice

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree or college certificate in social media, public relations, journalism or communications; and two to five years of related work experience
  • Exceptional writing skills with experience conceptualizing and producing a variety of social media strategies, campaigns and products
  • Experience writing platform-specific and generic social media messages for maximum impact
  • Proven experience in contributing to and delivering on strategic communications plans
  • Knowledge of communications tools and techniques, including the practical application of new technologies and social media, such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
  • Well-developed analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, client orientation and focus on solutions
  • Ability to take initiative, establish priorities and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment while exercising flexibility and sound judgement

ASSETS

  • Bilingualism English/French (spoken)
  • Experience using social media management software, particularly Meltwater Engage
  • Awareness of, and ability to respond to, political, governmental, media and research priorities in the area of substance use disorders
  • Experience working with senior Government of Canada officials, including staff in ministerial offices, and elected officials at the federal or provincial/territorial levels
  • Experience working in or with science- and research-based organizations
