Description of the job
The Engagement and Communication Branch delivers strategy to support the Alberta Energy Regulator in its ongoing dialogue with Albertans, indigenous peoples, industry, the Government of Alberta, AER staff, and other stakeholders.
The Specialist, Communications is responsible for providing engagement and communication advice and support to all levels of the organization. The position delivers on media relations, issues management, government requests, and strategic planning, and provides advice on reputation management, relationship building, change management, and navigating AER processes. Individuals in this role anticipate reputational needs and provide timely and strategic communication and engagement advice, planning, and tactical execution to help the AER achieve its mandate.
This is a six month contract, with the possibility of future extension.
Provide strategic engagement, communication, and change management advice, assessment, and planning to AER project teams and leadership.
Identify issues and trends through research and analysis.
Develop strategies and tactics that support the AER's mandate and individual project outcomes, align with organizational objectives, and produce measurable results.
Write engaging, non-technical content in both corporate and journalistic styles.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and leaders in every area of the organization to support projects, manage issues, and ensure accurate content are consistently delivered to uphold the AER reputation.
Support proactive and reactive media relations efforts, act as spokesperson and public information officer, and participate in the media duty responsibilities.
Provide employee and corporate communications support as needed.
5+ years' experience in communications and public relations.
Degree in public relations or journalism, or diploma in these disciplines and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in issues management, crisis communications, social media, media relations, and corporate communications.
Experience developing and implementing communication and engagement strategies with measurable results.
Adept in working with various levels of leadership to provide strategic advice in support of corporate goals and objectives.
Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Team spirit and a great attitude!
Accreditation in Public Relations (APR); IAP2 certification; change management training; indigenous awareness training.
Experience working in public service agencies; knowledge of Alberta's energy industry.
Additional requirements/information for candidates :
This is a six month Limited Term Contract with the possibility of future extension based out of Calgary Head Office.
