The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School went through a dramaticrenaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $40.4 million in research funding per year, the School supports discovery in global health, tobacco impacts on health, occupational disease and disability, air pollution, inner city and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

The E-BEST (Equity in Built Environment Surveillance Tools) project aims to build and deliver digital information tools that highlight how urban environments promote health and well-being. These tools will include a web-enable phone app and website that let users explore dynamic maps of air quality, greenspace, active living and transportation opportunities, noise, and other outdoor urban characteristics.

As Communications Coordinator you will be responsible for developing content for the digital tools and promoting the E-BEST digital tools to key audiences to ensure widespread awareness and tool use. Using your exceptional communication skills, you will act as the liaison between the project research team and stakeholders to maintain and broaden awareness of the project and monitor the effectiveness of all outreach activities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop content and identify existing content related to healthy urban built environments for use for E-BEST digital tools and project website
  • Review user experience design results; in collaboration with others develop and design user surveys
  • Contribute to the design and production (digital and print) of an annual ?report card' on urban environmental equity in Canada
  • Determine logistical details in support of the development and implementation of communications and outreach plans in collaboration with others
  • Write, edit, and distribute content (press releases, website and social media comments, annual reports, newsletters)
  • Track and monitor outreach activities with respect to reach and effectiveness

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and/or Communications or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education
  • Minimum four years of related experience in marketing and communications
  • Hands-on experience with social media platforms, digital communications and web content management tools (i.e., WordPress) in a professional setting
  • Experience designing surveys to support the evaluation of strategies and objectives
  • In-depth knowledge and experience managing social media channels, including building active engagement, maintaining a consistent voice and expanding reach
  • Demonstrated experience tracking and reporting on meaningful metrics
  • Experience making recommendations for improvements based on insights, best practices and objectives
  • Demonstrated experience and strong skills writing a broad range of content types, including but not limited to (press releases, website and social media content, annual reports, newsletters, print and digital advertising)
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills; demonstrated ability to advise on compelling storytelling concepts and strategies in addition to writing and producing stories/content
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) and knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong planning, project management skills with excellent prioritization and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and set/balance competing priorities to meet multiple and conflicting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, showing initiative and good judgment, and be an effective team member
  • Client-services oriented with demonstrated listening and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, students, senior administration and external constituents
