Primary Purpose: The Digital Marketing Specialist contributes to the implementation, measurement, and evolution of a university-wide digital strategy that engages stakeholders and builds the University of Saskatchewan brand in alignment with strategic priorities and the Mission, Vision and Values.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director, Digital Strategy, and under the direction of the Senior Digital Strategist, the Digital Marketing Specialist collaborates cross-functionally with a diverse group of individuals focusing on a short to medium planning horizon with a broad range impact. The position requires a proactive and creative approach in a complex, academic environment. This position requires a high level of energy, competence, and innovation, and acts as a change agent to influence and promote a data- and- digital-first marketing approach in support of the university's goals and strategic priorities in alignment with the University Relations Plan and the Technology Plan.

This position works in partnership to address the digital marketing needs of the institution by establishing and championing the use of analytics and scalable digital marketing processes and tools. It requires management of a heavy workload with competing demands and many diverse projects. The incumbent must work effectively amidst the ever-changing landscape of technology and communications and recognize new opportunities for collaboration. The work is unstructured and priorities may shift based on strategic and tactical considerations. The consequences of error or sub-standard work are significant as they have the potential to negatively affect priority business operations and the reputation of the university. Occasional travel may be involved, with some scheduled work on evenings and/or weekends.


  • Plan and execute on goals and measurements (analytics) for priority digital marketing campaigns across platforms (including web, search, social, email, and programmatic platforms)
  • Proactively oversee, execute, and measure collaborative and cross-functional digital marketing solutions
  • Develop, implement, and monitor metrics and analytics to measure the success and impact of campaigns and initiatives.
  • Develop digital marketing key performance indicators and iterate on end-to-end processes
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve search engine optimization (SEO) in a distributed content management environment
  • Consult with academic and administrative units on digital marketing opportunities to support and measure against strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with other teams to optimize user experience based on objective user-testing methodology
  • Make critical recommendations on new ideas, measurements, and approaches to issues and opportunities in area of digital marketing and communications
  • Keep up to date with changes in the digital marketing and communications landscape



An undergraduate university degree in a related discipline. Google Analytics Individual Qualification, Google Ads Search Certification or similar search, video or measurement certification would be considered an asset.


Five or more years of experience providing digital marketing services including consultation, execution, and reporting on campaigns for a diverse set of stakeholders. Experience should include search/display/social advertising, email marketing, social media management, and website maintenance, and demonstrated success in attaining targets; increasing market share, increasing social media traffic, shifting reputational markers, and demonstrated results in continuous quality improvement and process optimization. Familiarity with the university environment would be an asset.


  • Communication and facilitation skills are essential; requires an aptitude for research and understanding and reporting of data and analytics (i.e. data analysis);
  • experience in requirements gathering, documenting, problem resolution with clients; ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently;
  • proven success in completing high quality work in an accurate and timely manner; proficiency in translating business needs into digital-marketing solutions;
  • organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions; solid understanding of major digital marketing tools (e.g. Google Ads, Analytics, and Tag Manager);
  • common social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Snapchat, Tiktok and LinkedIn advertising); familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with CRM systems and email marketing; working knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS.
  • Willingness to articulate and take calculated risks in the pursuit of innovation to generate bold and novel modes of communicating and marketing.
