Position Mandate

We are seeking a Graphic Designer to join our growing company in this expanding industry. The Graphic Designer will play a key role in the buildout and evolution of our expansion strategy into the recreational cannabis retail space in Canada with our new brand, Flint & Embers. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Brand, the Graphic Designer will work closely with an integrated marketing and sales group to develop a strong visual brand identity and design creative concepts across multiple channels that effectively communicate complex ideas. The Graphic Designer will also engage in the design and development of a variety of items, for our parent company brand, MJardin Group. To be successful in this position, the candidate must be a skilled graphic designer, versed in digital marketing and brand development concepts, with a creative mindset that enjoys storytelling through media and out of the box thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a key player on the marketing team, working in collaboration with marketing and sales to develop and execute all creative service requests understanding business requirements, and objectives
  • Provide inputs and insights into the organization's expansion strategy, making recommendations as to how best to visually explain the companies offerings and plans.
  • Lead the creation, development and execution of original concepts of a wide range of communication/creative assets spanning from digital advertising, owned digital media assets, direct marketing to other channels including direct mail, print media while demonstrating best practices, with a focus on:
  • Brand Development
  • working with the team to finalize brand guidelines
  • mood board, colour palette, font, logo usage etc
  • Imagery
  • sourcing imagery for website and marketing assets
  • using the brand personality and mood board to select images
  • Graphic Design
  • design content applying the new look and feel to sales collateral, social media, website, packaging, etc.
  • Photography & Videography
  • collaborating with the team to lead photo and video shoots
  • Website Development
  • collaborating with the team to migrate the website, making recommendations as to how best to visually explain services offerings and plans.
  • Version Control
  • manage version control of assets to ensure quality delivery of creative assets to businesses
  • Brainstorm and create ideas with retailers, marketing, and sales
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and municipal regulations, from a promotional perspective
  • Research and keep a pulse on market, consumer and competitor trends to recognize upcoming opportunities
  • Perform other functions pertinent to the role where required

Within the first 12 months the successful candidate will have demonstrated progress:

  • Implementing a visual brand identity, across multiple channels including social media, email, website and other marketing channels to increase brand awareness and demand to result in growing market share
  • Ideal Experience and Competencies

Education

  • Degree preferred
  • Formal training in graphic design is an asset
  • Work Experience
  • 4+ years as a graphic designer
  • Experience building out brands
  • Demonstrated experience in web design and creative asset development
  • Familiarity with cannabis and cannabis industry, particularly the laws and regulations regarding promotions is an asset
  • Agency experience is an asset

Technical Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Premiere and Photoshop)
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects (or other video creating platform)
  • Experience with website building platforms (Squarespace, WIX or similar)
  • Understanding of requirements to have design work print ready
  • Organizational Skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment with multiple deadlines
  • Able to react to change and take direction effectively and productively
  • Passionate and enthusiastic to be part of the foundational team that will drive the new Cannabis industry
