The Opportunity

Reporting to the President & CEO, the VP, Marketing is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and will provide strategic direction and leadership for the overall brand, advertising and marketing strategies. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering relationships with external stakeholders including the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC) and our provincial organization to lead our Marketing Division located in Stettler, Alberta.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall Marketing Division (Product Development, Sports, National Game Development)
  • Develop Marketing Strategies and provide executive oversight into Advertising and Media strategies with a focus on long term revenue growth, strong project portfolios, growing player base and channel enhancements
  • Provide Senior Marketing direction on ILC Game and Strategy projects and strategic direction on National Game portfolio planning
  • Represent Marketing on ILC National strategy development and provide direction into various ICL working groups such as Draw Based Games, Scratch, Advertising and Media and Research and Innovation
  • Lead a high performing team to meet and exceed service standards, including:
  • Provide leadership and coaching to employees
  • Set priorities and provide clear direction for achieving organizational and team goals
  • Conduct Employee Performance Management, Succession Planning, Recruitment and Termination of staff
  • Identify opportunities to improve the, player engagement, and interest in the lottery to increase engagement and performance ratings and implement standards of service
  • Direct research and program development on best practices
  • Liaise with provincial organizations to identify opportunities at the retailer level and develop marketing and product strategies
  • Liaise with other lottery jurisdictions regarding programs and trends
  • Develop strong positive relationships with the Board, Provincial organizations, vendors and peers
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to review strategy requirements and initiatives and address operational and strategic concerns
  • Special projects as required

Qualification and Competencies

  • Strong leader who can articulate a vision and inspire the team to deliver on challenging goals
  • A degree in Commerce, Communications, Marketing or related discipline
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience with a strong track record of sound operational and management skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and analytical skills, including financial analysis, problem solving, research and reconciliation
  • Ability to advocate for WCLC and demonstrate to government, business/industry, stakeholders and the public the value of the Corporation as a key partner in the economic and social vibrancy of the provinces
  • Solid knowledge/experience in developing retailer customer service programs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including strong presentation skills
  • Strong leadership skills including performance management, planning, prioritization, objective setting and plan execution
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse staff
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, influence, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines
  • Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously with minimal direction, while relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Knowledge of Lottery and Gaming industry an asset
  • Reputation for personal and professional integrity

Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) is a non-profit organization authorized to manage, conduct and operate lottery and gaming-related activities for its Members, including the governments of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut participate as associate members. WCLC's affairs are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of two representatives appointed by each of the Member provincial governments.
