Position Overview

Reporting to the Asphalt & Aggregates Manager, the Sales Representative is responsible for the sale of aggregates and hot mix asphalt in the Greater Calgary market by building and servicing a customer base using a consultative sales approach.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the Asphalt and Aggregates Manager to create a targeted sales plan within the marketplace.

Service current accounts and acquire new business by calling and visiting customers to understand needs.

Communicate the value of Aecon's products and services to customers.

Bid on incoming tendered projects and search out new project opportunities to achieve sales objectives.

Generate time sensitive sales quotes for customers.

Negotiate and close out project opportunities.

Maintain daily communication with internal operations staff to schedule customer orders.

Coordinate the dispatch and delivery of aggregate and asphalt materials to customers.

Ensure that Aecon's corporate health and safety program is adhered to including active participation in periodic safety meetings.

Regular follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction.

Establish and maintain strong business relationships with customers and industry partners.

Identify the key decision makers within targeted customers.

Support the credit department in collection of accounts receivables.

Assist with developing and executing pricing and marketing strategies.

Gather market information pertaining to economic, customer and competitive activities.

Effectively execute administrative duties including but not limited to reports of weekly call activities and monthly market summary.

Attend and represent the company at industry events.

Regular automobile travel to meet with customers and internal operations staff on site.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her Supervisor.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • CET, Business Degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • 3-5 years in a sales or marketing position preferably in a construction materials environment (Aggregates, Asphalt, Ready Mix).
  • Construction market and industry knowledge an asset.
  • Strong computer skills
  • proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • oral and written.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with good organizational skills.
  • Adaptable to work a flexible work schedule when required.
  • Ability to work with others as a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
