Managing Director, Communications & Social Impact

The opportunity

We are looking for a strategic, seasoned communications leader who is passionate about delivering a proactive, global best-in-class communications and social impact program. This newly created position will report to the global head of brand, marketing and communications. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience leading internal communications, external communications, issues and crisis management along with a proven track record for delivering outstanding results.

Who you'll work with

You'll act as a senior strategic advisor to executives and senior leaders on a wide range of files and will maintain strong relations with key partners including media, bloggers and online influencers.

What you'll do

Oversee Internal Communications and Company Events Program

Lead all aspects of a best-in-class global, internal communications strategy and program

Lead the flawless delivery of all major internal and external corporate events

Bring the Teachers brand strategy to life and build employee ambassador program

Lead Proactive, Global External Communications Strategy

Deliver a robust, strategic program to build Teachers' profile in key markets globally

Drive meaningful improvements to Ontario Teachers external profile and brand

Lead investment transaction communications along with annual and semi-annual reporting

Deliver Award-Winning Social Impact Strategy

Identify and manage key partnerships for Teachers' social impact plan

Implement a differentiated social impact strategy to support Teachers' purpose driven brand

Work in partnership with Responsible Investing to report on Teachers' social impact progress

Build and Protect Teachers' Reputation

Develop and implement a best in class approach to issues and crisis management

Lead the company's response to key issues and act as a company spokesperson

Measure and Enhance Team Performance

Develop and mentor a high-performing, highly engaged internal and external communications team

Implement a research and measurement program to drive communications team performance

Maximize the team budget and external agency model to drive maximum impact

Stay current on outstanding communications and social impact strategies around the world

What you'll need

Outstanding judgment and problem-solving skills

Extensive experience in issues and crisis management

Analytical mindset, with strong problem solving and interpersonal skills

Proven ability to build highly engaged, robust teams

Ability to articulately and succinctly present ideas and frame issues for discussion

Strong ability to influence effectively at all levels of the organization

Strong relationship builder and cultivator of internal and external relationships

High level of critical thinking coupled with innovative and creative approach

15-20 years of experience in communications and public affairs

A university degree in communications, journalism or business administration

Ability to see the big picture, grasp issues quickly and make sound, independent decisions
