We are looking for someone who is passionate about internal communications! You’ll be the eyes, ears and voice of the tremendous teams at the McGill University Health Centre. You are an experienced English writer able to convey important information that contributes to the smooth running of our world-renowned hospital and tell inspiring stories about our remarkable staff.  

Under the leadership of the MUHC's Human Resources, Communication and Legal Affairs directorate, this team member defines, evaluates, develops and implements communication strategies and tools to promote MUHC activities and initiatives. Chief responsibilities are to develop internal communication plans to inform staff and encourage them to respect to our values and policies, build engagement, support change management initiatives and strengthen the MUHC community.

50% Internal and external written communication in English and oversee translation into French

35% Participation in the development and implementation of internal communications strategies to achieve MUHC objectives

15% Advisory role in strategic planning exercises and the development of communications materials to present the hospital's strategic goals and key objectives

GENERAL and SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in the development of annual objectives, communications plans and action plans for MUHC activities;
  • Ensures that all publications, multimedia and other communications activities convey a message of competence and integrity consistent with the mission, goals and objectives of the MUHC;
  • Collaborates in the development of communication plans for various clients and projects to inform, engage and motivate staff and teams;
  • Plans, develops and executes multi-channel written and audio-visual communication tools for various stakeholder audiences, primarily internal;
  • Contributes to the creation of content for social media and the website (article writing, photography and video production);
  • Ensures the linguistic quality of documents produced by the MUHC;
  • Participates in the planning and coordination of events, manages the logistical aspects of the event, establishes links with the suppliers involved, and carries out the necessary follow-ups to close the event;
  • Researches best practices in internal communications and supports the development of internal communications strategies;
  • Responds with urgency (when appropriate) to institutional needs and changes;
  • Collaborates on data collection, analysis and reporting and how to use it as key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve performance.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Manager, Communications

Working conditions

  • Permanent full-time position
  • 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day
  • May be required to travel between MUHC sites
  • Occasionally required to be present outside of regular working hours for work, special projects, emergency situations
  • Non-unionized position

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Social Sciences or other relevant academic discipline 
  • Three (3) years of relevant and recent experience in communications or a related field 

Other qualifications

  • Excellent level of English and French, both spoken and written
  • Excellent written English, editing, synthesis and vulgarisation skills.
  • Good command of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with web and multimedia production
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of individuals and teams
  • Consultative approach, analytical and synthesis skills, autonomy, innovation, creativity and efficiency
  • Basic graphic design skills an asset
