Job Description
  • Policy Writer

TEMPO School is looking for a Policy and Administrative Procedure Writer to work with our team during the 2021-22 school year.

The policy writer will compose, update, maintain and clarify the Board Policies and Administrative Procedures of TEMPO School. The policy writer will write a policy manual, as well as the administrative procedures by which to introduce such changes to the manual. Written policy must be simple and clear so that it can be easily understood. Policy must also be comprehensive and able to address questions or situations that may arise. The policy writer needs to be aware of potential situations or questions at every level of TEMPO's work. Maintaining policy manuals requires that the policy writer keep accurate files. All updates, revisions and deletions must be recorded and easily accessible.

Writing and introducing policy also entails ensuring that policy is not contradictory to TEMPO's guidelines or objectives. This includes ensuring that policy is both in line with TEMPO's mission and the laws of the community. This work may entail legal research or consultation.

Accountabilities and Duties

1. Gathering and reviewing the current Policies and Administrative Procedures.

2. Deciphering what should be in Policy and what should be in Administrative Procedures.

3. Gathering sample Policies and Administrative Procedures.

4. Consulting with stakeholders (staff, administration, PAC, etc.) to ensure that the documents reflect and steer TEMPO's philosophy, vision and mission.

5. Writing draft Policies and Administrative Procedures for the Head Master's consideration and cross-referencing these with the current legislative framework.

6. Prepare final iteration of these

  • approximately 150 Policies and Administrative Procedures and accompanying forms to write.

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma within English, Technical Writing or similar programs.
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant technical or business writing work experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory rules and laws specific to Education in Alberta and Independent Schools
  • Project management experience is an asset.
  • Experience in creating forms is an asset.

Strong knowledge of:

Contemporary style guides (such as Microsoft Manual of Style and The Canadian Press Stylebook) to achieve a common voice.

Single-source writing techniques.

MS Office Suite, including Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Contract length: 12 months

Part-time hours: 17 per week

Salary: $70,000.00-$91,000.00 per year

Schedule: Day shift, Monday to Friday
