Responsibilities

Do you love writing and learning? In this position you will do lots of both, transforming subject matter content into engaging and insightful text. As a member of the Production Team, you will support CTLI, other departments in Lethbridge College, and external clients in developing and supporting the design of learning experiences, focussing on the written word.

You are responsible for employing creativity and engaging audiences and learners through effective communication methods. Communicating ideas, concepts, and messages that are tailored to various audiences with be the meat and potatoes of your work. You will work with many different types of stakeholders, translating ideas and data into writing, and editing content from subject matter experts. You may work on many different projects such as design documents, academic courses, micro-credential courses, formal reports, grants, website content, and marketing materials. Reporting to the production coordinator, a contract writer is a part of the Production Team Pool, and contracted, by the production coordinator, as needed, for specific projects. Remote applicants welcome! Job Duties

Writing for Exemplary Learner Experiences:

Utilize a human-centred design approach to gain understanding of the learners and project goals, with an emphasis on holistic writing design that encompasses the user experience

Determine which type of language, style, tone will be best suited to produce desired learning outcomes and the most appropriate vehicle for communication

Create original written work that captures the essence of what the project team envisions

Create drafts, prototypes, and iterate until a finished product is achieved

Utilize thorough knowledge and skill in Microsoft products and learning management systems

Utilize written communication to provide rich, online experiences and simulations for online learning

Write with consideration for accessibility and engagement of all learners

Emerging Practices and Innovations in Teaching and Learning:

Work with clients to assess needs, brainstorm solutions, simplify and communicate complex ideas

Share ideas and employ technical abilities to improve the quality of learning objects

Provide consultation, creativity and expertise for proposed writing projects

Continually search for and adopt innovative technologies and processes for writing styles and engagement

Drive engagement events and activities through writing content for branding and marketing materials

Other:

Support Lethbridge College business development initiatives by developing compelling communication materials for external clients

Communicate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams and departments

Attend project meetings as representation of the Production team, and writing/editing expert, to help inform participants of industry standards, engagement, and communication styles and standards

Work with in-house writer, as applicable, for adherence to college standards, guidelines, etc. Required Qualifications

Two-year diploma in English, writing, or related field

Minimum of 1 year prior job experience as a writer

Proven written and verbal communication skills

Excellent customer service skills

Experience using Office 365

Must thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment

Access to any necessary technology (e.g. laptop) Preferred Qualifications

Degree in related field

Work experience in post-secondary institution

Experience with grant writing
