Marketing & Social Media Manager

Founded in 1998, HowStuffWorks is an award-winning website that is home to thousands of articles, podcasts and videos that explain how the world really works. The site was acquired by System1 in 2016, and has since reached even broader audiences. As a Social Media Manager you'll primarily focus on growth across organic channels for HowStuffWorks, and select publishing sites. This role will work within our social media team, and be responsible for executing organic strategy, managing email campaigns, brand awareness, and driving organic traffic to our sites.

The Role You'll Have

  • Coordinate with editorial team to plan, build, and A/B test email campaigns in MailChimp
  • Drive the optimization of newsletter landing pages, pop ups, and referral programs
  • Plan and execute social media calendars, including for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Flipboard
  • Track and update KPI dashboards and reports with metrics from social media, emails, and push
  • Work with web analytics tools to identify growth opportunities (Google Analytics, Google Data Studio)
  • Manage aspects of our social media accounts, including posting, design requests, and comment moderation
  • Assist members of the social media team in developing multi-channel social media strategies and campaigns, with an emphasis on growing organic traffic
  • Oversee push notifications to our web subscribers and work with push vendors to optimize traffic and reduce subscriber churn
  • Monitor and moderate comments and conversations on Facebook and Twitter

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelors degree in marketing or a related field
  • 2-3 years managing social media and/or email marketing in a corporate environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills, work ethic, and do-it-yourself attitude
  • Enthusiasm for social media marketing and online community building
  • Proficiency with Photoshop and/or Canva is a plus
  • A personal interest in science and history is also a plus
