Overview :

Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs, the Manager, Corporate Communications will develop and lead a broad range of communication strategies and tactics relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and its leadership. The goal is to advance the organization's reputation with relevant audiences, as well as drive a broader profile for the organization as it executes its modernization agenda. The manager is also responsible for accuracy, quality, tone and manner and pacing of the OEB's varied and integrated communications products and services.

Responsibilities :
  • Lead the development of new and measured communication strategies, plans, campaigns and protocols to advance the OEB's strategic objectives and outcomes
  • Oversee the development and execution of speeches, media strategy and materials, digital content, internal communications, issues and reputation management, key message tracks copy decks, call centre scripts etc.
  • Develop and enhance meaningful relationships with internal and targeted external audiences, including relevant government ministries, the media and other key stakeholders
  • Build-on and continuously improve OEB's internal communications program in support of HR, senior executive leadership and change management programs
  • Identify challenges, emerging risks and issues faced by the organization. Work with leaders and staff to recognize communication opportunities and execute appropriate strategies to tell OEB's stories
  • Manage OEB's channel strategy through paid, earned, owned and shared properties
  • Serve as and prepare spokesperson(s) for media interactions
  • Actively engages, develops and manages media relationships to ensure coverage surrounding OEB priorities, announcements and other projects
  • Directly and effectively builds and manages the communications staff by leveraging the competencies and capacities of the team to ensure the delivery of comprehensive and integrated communication strategies
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, retaining and developing the OEB's talent in this area
  • Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, establish goals, complete performance appraisals and manage labour relations issues in collaboration with HR
  • Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Marketing or a similar discipline along with a post-secondary diploma or certificate in Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline

  • 10+ years' experience in progressive roles in corporate communications in a senior advisory capacity including experience writing materials, speeches and presentations
  • 5+ years' experience managing a team with a demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate and deliver on corporate priorities
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic communications plans and providing strategic communication counsel to senior managers
  • Experience managing media relations programs and multi-channel campaigns
  • Bilingual (written and spoken) in French and English is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze emerging issues and develop strategic responses
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with senior management, peers, internal clients, the energy sector and the media
  • Agile/Adaptable and comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate and advise at all levels within an organization
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills

The Ontario Energy Board offices are in mid-town Toronto, however, we accepts candidates from outside the GTA.
