POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Communications and Community Relations Coordinator, you will a key role in the development and delivery of superior, multi-channel communication products and engaging stakeholder and community relations activities that support a key Kiewit project. We're looking for a high-performing, proactive and multi-skilled communications professional who's eager and able to manage a wide range of projects and initiatives. You're an outstanding writer with a knack for translating technical information into engaging, digestible content. You thrive in a fast-paced, collegial environment and you're equally as comfortable operating autonomously as you are collaborating with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders including Indigenous groups and the community.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW

Kiewit's Western Canada District is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We are looking for hard working individuals with a passion for construction who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty! Our current opportunities are spread across the entire west coast of Canada.

This position is based in Burnaby, BC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create timely, informative, and engaging content to build awareness and support for the supported project.
  • Build confidence, understanding and trust among key stakeholders, residents, community groups and the public by supporting integrated and proactive communications and community engagement approaches and stakeholder relations initiatives.
  • Notifying Indigenous Community Representatives (ICRs) of employment and training opportunities; completing regular check-ins with MBA Indigenous communities, which may include in-person meetings, phone calls or email (depending on communication preference) for employment and training opportunities.
  • Works with the project teams to increase sensitivity and awareness of public issues, neighbours, and stakeholders, and work with the public, neighbourhoods, stakeholders and others to exchange information, coordinate efforts, and resolve issues.
  • Measure the quality, performance and outcomes of strategic communications and community relations objectives through the development and implementation and dissemination of metrics, and associated reports, monitors and reports on progress for internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain a communication/contact/public inquiry database to chronicle inquiries, actions, and results.
  • Use multi-media and digital techniques and content to support project information and collateral including brochures, fact sheets, flyers, handouts, and presentations.
  • Draft and post articles to support project/district/corporate communication and employee communication initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to create an integrated, high-performing communications and stakeholder engagement team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years' progressive experience in communications, community engagement, community relations, customer service in the public or private sector or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Project management experience to lead, manage, and monitor simultaneous projects to tight deadlines, and monitor project performance results.
  • Analytical problem-solving and issues management skills, political acuity, initiative, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to build constructive and effective relationships, and work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, Indigenous groups, the community to build consensus or influence decisions.
  • Ability to work in high intensity, demanding situations with a proven track record of successfully meeting deadlines and project expectations, with a strict attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation/listening communication and issues management skills to develop and implement materials and responses to community and stakeholder issues and concerns.
  • Strong ethics that will reflect positively on the company, and an ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Modern communication techniques, multimedia, and software applications (e.g. desktop publishing, word processing, web-authoring).
