POSITION: Events and Clubs Coordinator (unionized position)

JOB TYPE: Full-time

LOCATION: North Oshawa and Whitby


SALARY: $41,008

Durham College Student Association is designed to promote and improve the student experience here at Durham College. Built by Durham College students, for Durham College students, the association is looking for dedicated leaders to join our team of skilled individuals to be a part of a brand new organization and build the future of Durham College's student government.


The purpose of this position is to assist DCSA with event planning and oversee the clubs, societies and indigenous student circles program. This role will also work closely with other staff at DCSA to help host events throughout the year for students on all 3 campuses. Must be flexible for working hours, and meet attendance goals to make all events a success.


Events (50%)

  • Work with Operations Manager to plan events and to communicate effectively to all groups within the campus environment.
  • Be an innovative and creative individual willing to work with various groups to plan and complete all events of DCSA
  • from a small scale game night to signature events.
  • Work closely with Marketing Coordinator, Outreach Manager and their staff to promote all staff on social media and website;
  • Coordinate and train volunteers and work-study students to execute various events throughout the year;
  • Strong interpersonal skills is required to assist work study students and volunteers to problem solve and assist in making decisions related to their goals;
  • Communicate event details to students, management, staff, college, and external community partners to promote all events to all groups within campus community;
  • Maintain and implement incident report policy at all events, and work closely with event team to ensure all events follow DCSI protocol for event safety;
  • Lead, coordinate and monitor the performance of the Events Squad.

Clubs (50%)

  • Manages the development and delivery of the DCSA Clubs, Societies and Indigenous Student Circles program in line with overall organizational priorities of DCSA.
  • Continue the launch of the new DCSA Clubs, Societies and Indigenous Student Circles program for DCSA with an aim of increasing the range of student groups events and activities,
  • Research and recommend changes, and proactively work to encourage new Clubs, Societies and Indigenous Student Circles to set up
  • Work with student leaders to ensure sustainability of clubs and societies over successive academic years
  • Approve events and budget for DCSA Clubs, Societies and Indigenous Student Circles
  • Develops and oversees the use of the DCSA Clubs, Societies and Indigenous Student Circles website page ensuring all information and resources available is up-to-date, transparent, ethical and in line with policies
  • Promoting outcomes and activities of student clubs, societies, indigenous student circles supporting students translate their experience into employability credentials
  • Work with Academic Depts. to develop and deepen representation and the Student Voice
  • General administration duties, tracking and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned


  • College Diploma in Events, or Volunteer Coordination, or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience of working in similar environment, with events, management and volunteers
  • Solid understanding of a student environment and voluntary sector
  • Experience of working with and supporting volunteers, with recognition events and training
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely
  • Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage working time effectively, and prioritize projects appropriately
  • Ability to motivate volunteers to achieve
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • An understanding and appreciation of indigenous cultures and a commitment to reconciliation with the indigenous peoples in Canada
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently

  • Evening and weekend work may be required at student events
  • Ability to travel between multiple campus locations
  • Dealing with enquiries at the reception when student representatives are not present.
