Communications Manager

Required Qualifications

  • 2-year diploma or bachelor's degree in the areas of marketing, communications, public relations, and/or journalism or an equivalent combination of qualifications acceptable by the employer.
  • Minimum 5-7 years' working experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, lead projects, prioritize work, and manage staff.
  • Ability to work with internal clients and various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Issues management experience includes the ability to analyze complex issues and identify communication solutions, under tight deadlines, and under pressure.
  • Impeccable proofreading and editing skills, and writing experience in various formats including media releases, speech writing, ad copy, editorial, and writing for the web.
  • Well-versed in popular social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Experience in Post-secondary education.

A combination of education, experience, and training acceptable to the college will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage diverse and complex projects in the marketing and communications.
  • Current knowledge of industry technology and applications (products and equipment, software and IT infrastructure, safety regulations).
  • Ability to plan, analyze and manage projects, scheduling, budgets and day-to-day operations.
  • Knowledge of Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation; formal FOIP training an added bonus.
  • Accreditation with the Canadian Public Relations Society or the International Association of Business Communicators.

Job Description

As part of the Keyano College Marketing & Communications team, the Communications Manager will play a vital leadership role in the marketing and communications for the College. Under the guidance of the Director, you will develop and execute communication strategies in collaboration with the faculty, staff, and departmental representatives, to promote programs and services with our internal clients and external stakeholders. This role will help guide the strategic direction of marketing and communications initiatives for the future growth of the College.

This role will be responsible to manage all marketing and communications materials and collateral to the point of final approval by the Director. The Communications Manager will work with various stakeholders (e.g. college departments, executives, peers, etc.) to create a collaborative atmosphere and ensure their marketing and communication needs are being met. This role will develop and execute marketing and communication strategies including an annual marketing plan and communications calendar in collaboration with the Director and various stakeholders within the College. The Communications Manager will be responsible for the performance reviews and conduct on-going

Some specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop marketing and communications annual strategic plan for the College.
  • Develop an annual communications calendar.
  • Lead and guide marketing and communications coordinators to ensure clients and stakeholder needs are being met.
  • Manage the scheduling and production of marketing materials, College communications, and content for Keyano.ca and Good Morning Keyano.
  • Copywriting and editing.
  • Lead the team to produce marketing materials for social media and find new and innovative ways to communicate to potential students, current students, and stakeholders.
  • Develop a relationship with local media and act as the media contact for the College.
  • Coach other Keyano staff to create web content.
  • Collaborating with Marketing Coordinators to schedule photo and video shoots with various internal clients and talent, specifically targeted for web and social media.

Advertised Salary

$87,000.00 per annum plus an attractive benefits package.
