This Senior Program Manager position provides a unique opportunity to work in the Cloud Infrastructure Business Group (CIBG). CIBG is responsible for growing vSphere-based workloads anywhere by creating the world's first integrated, multi-cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Container-as-a-service offering that is best suited for all enterprise applications. The Business Operations Manager will partner closely with the vSphere and VMware on Cloud (VMC) platform Engineering leadership team to execute the charter of this organization with the highest level of operational efficiency and alignment with the overall vision of the CIBG at VMware.

This individual will lead critical initiatives and operations for the vSphere and VMC Platform Engineering team. The candidate will be a strong, hands-on collaborator who will enable the team to execute its strategy by predicting and solving problems proactively and driving change in the organization. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to think and act strategically while ensuring successful day-to-day execution at all levels of the organization.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Drive technical process improvement workstreams to improve organization efficiency

Build solid, integrated program plans as you will work with multiple functions to deliver capabilities and value to the team

Partner with leadership to manage financial aspects of the organization. This includes resource planning, maintaining budgets, and developing scalable processes to track and approve headcount and non-headcount expenses.

Drive engineering offsite planning and follow-through on retrospective actions

Drive an operational review cadence and track progress to a set of metrics

Lead various initiatives and projects aimed at addressing operational and strategic challenges

Build clear plans for interdependent workstreams (schedule, dependencies, risks, etc.) in collaboration with leadership and stakeholders

Proactively identify risks, issues and drive their resolution

Report on your programs to executive stakeholders. Be the trusted speaker in key checkpoint reviews

Build clear financial plans and maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality

Partner with the leadership team to align strategic and tactical goals with business objectives

Update and maintain Confluence so stakeholders can view the state of the program at any time

Facilitate operating review cadence and obtain updates from teams

This position will be part of the 100+ person Platform Engineering Operations team. The team supports all the products and engineering teams within the Cloud Infrastructure Business Group (CIBG) Platform team. Our Business Operation team is small but growing team that works to enable operational excellence for the engineering teams. Each member of the team has lots of autonomy. It is a team that get things done while having lots of fun.
