Position Overview

The Community & Partner Engagement department is looking for a temporary full time Events Coordinator and Community Liaison for approximately one year.

Responsibilities

In this position you will be responsible for providing leadership in planning, developing, implementing and coordinating large public events and festivals at The Shipyards and Waterfront. This includes reviewing inquiries and applications for large events and various programming, negotiating contracts and determining suitability of proposed events or programming and arranging event logistical requirements, availability of resources and overseeing implementation. In this capacity you will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders including city staff, event organizers, neighboring businesses, residents and partners. You will prepare and coordinate promotional materials and write copy for various Shipyards communication channels, including social media, newsletter and website. Additionally, you will be responsible for soliciting funding for events from corporate sponsors; initiating programming opportunities for corporate and community based events; facilitating consultative processes with community groups, non-profits, businesses, and large event planners; oversee rental spaces and manage bookings.

Requirements

You will have a diploma in Event Management, Public Engagement, Community Development Communications, or Marketing, plus considerable experience coordinating large scale events and programming related to municipal events, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will also have strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across a variety of internal and external stakeholders. You must have considerable knowledge of corporate and revenue earned commercial programming needs, and the ability to oversee and direct the work of subordinates. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required.

Compensation

$36.39 - $42.96 per hour

(Pay grade 23 - January 2021 rates)

Hours of Work

Any 7 consecutive hours, exclusive of an unpaid one hour meal break, between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00pm any five (5) consecutive days of seven (7) with a compressed work schedule

Additional Information

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
