Role Summary
The Client Application Technology team is dedicated to creating compelling experiences that deliver Reuters outstanding journalism to the world's most informed professionals, with goals to increase discovery, optimize conversion, and drive engagement across the Thomson Reuters products and services. The technology focuses on Reuter's world-class journalism presentation across web and mobile consumer platforms, with substantial backend service and monetization function integration.
You will plan, coordinate, and supervise the activities related to the design, development, and implementation of Reuters News mobile applications assigned by the Director of Software Engineering.
As an experienced technologist, you are the focal point for engineering initiatives and issues across our mobile applications. We expect you to work with a distributed team of software developers, quality assurance engineers, UX designers and product managers focused on the development and delivery of new product offerings for Reuters iOS and Android apps.
As a manager, you are accountable for your team's results. You will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide your team. make informed decisions on their technical design, development, and deployment of Reuters mobile experience to the highest quality and maintainability.
Responsibilities
Accountable for the successful execution of technology projects and ensuring timely execution and delivery through diligent oversight of the end-to-end software development lifecycle
Contribute code alongside the team's developers
Resolve escalated issues arising from operations requiring coordination with other departments
Establish high engineering standards on execution while integrating pragmatic constraints into technical scope planning and project resource estimations
Partner with Product and other business stakeholders to define the quarterly and annual product roadmap
Advise cross-functional team members and business stakeholders to guide complexity and tradeoff discussions
Develop consistent, clear communication and prioritization frameworks. Align engineering priorities with product development and business strategies
Plan for the long-term, and firmly execute a vision that keeps improving the team's efficiency, and output quality. Continue to grow the team's knowledge, skill, and sustainability to meet growing business requirements
Drive technological changes, assess risks, and create business impacts
Build a world-class team: Motivate, engage, develop your employees and recruit talents to your organization
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years progressively responsible management experience in a software development field, or equivalent experience as a non-managing dev lead
Must have 3 years of experience building production iOS or Android applications, including experience with backend service integration, website integration, user engagement analytics, and with development operational tools (Git, CI/CD pipelines)
Proven fluency and in-depth knowledge of at least one of the 4 programming languages: Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin
Demonstrable portfolio of released applications on Apple or Google app stores
Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
5 years of mobile engineering experience using native language and SDK
Comprehensive knowledge of cross-platform mobile development tools, including Kotlin MM, Flutter, NativeScript, React Native
Practical knowledge or hands-on experience with Kotlin Multiplatform
Extensive knowledge of APIs including RESTful and GraphQL
Knowledge of CMS: its workflow and headless integrations with Front-end
Knowledge of Design Systems
Knowledge of typical app monetization strategies and their implementations: e.g. In-app advertising or digital subscriptions
In-depth knowledge of application performance benchmarking, optimization, and monitoring
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Experience in researching and making recommendations on software products and services for procurement
