The Communication Specialist supports the preparation of engagement and communication strategies, assists with the preparation of BCI's corporate publications and other collateral products, and participates in research initiatives. Responsibilities include researching, planning and writing for different collateral products, as well as updating and maintaining content for issues management.

The Specialist operates within a team that has a mandate to strengthen and manage BCI's corporate brand and reputation, as well as foster and maintain long-term partnerships with external stakeholders by defining and leading BCI's engagement strategies and external reporting initiatives.

The Communication Specialist, reporting to the Senior Advisor, External Stakeholder Engagement, supports the Senior Advisor with initiatives related to the implementation of BCI's external stakeholder engagement programs, and strengthening BCI's reputation and relationship management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or diploma in communication, marketing, journalism, and/or business

Two- to five years-experience in external communication and stakeholder engagement, preferably in the investment or financial sector

Completion of the CFA Institute Investment Foundations ® Program or the Canadian Securities Course will be advantageous

SKILLS

Superior writing skills and proven experience in multi-media communication

Strong research and analytical skills with an aptitude for understanding complex concepts

Self starter who proactively brings new ideas to the team and is comfortable in a fast-paced dynamic environment

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work collaboratively with colleagues and external service providers Strong computing skills in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, and related applications

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engagement / Communication Strategies for External Stakeholders

Help develop and implement engagement / communication strategies for specific initiatives, including strategies to strengthen BCI's reputation.

Research and maintain a calendar of external industry events and speaking opportunities.

Intake and assess inbound requests for sponsorships, speaking engagements and other opportunities, as well as research, evaluate and make related recommendations.

Review materials produced for BCI's public speaking engagements to ensure alignment with corporate key messaging and positioning.

Prepare responses to inbound queries from the public and other stakeholders, dealing with sensitive issues with tact.

Production of BCI's External Collateral Material

Support the Senior Advisor with producing external-facing publications and collateral materials; activities include but not limited to: concept development; copy writing; fact checking; researching best reporting practices; coordinating sections of a publication.

Prepare project plans and schedules to support the production of BCI's collateral products.

Ensure that copy is aligned with approved corporate key messaging, is consistent across all products, supports BCI's external communication strategy, and is aligned with corporate editorial standards.

Issues Management and Crisis Communication

Monitor and track issues across asset classes and geographies that may impact BCI's reputation.

Support the Senior Advisor with preparing issue notes, backgrounders, briefing notes and other documents related to issues management.

Conduct research and source information that can be incorporated into issues management messaging and practices.

Special Projects

Support special projects that are aligned to BCI's external engagement program.

Corporate Responsibilities

Actively adheres to compliance and risk management policies and participates in BCI's business continuity plan, and emergency/crisis communication activities.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with BCI's stakeholders.

CIR represents BCI in consulting with, advocating for, and communicating with our clients and all stakeholder groups. These activities involve two core functions - Corporate Stakeholder Engagement and Client Partnerships. As a collective, CIR is responsible for:

cultivating and managing BCI's brand and reputation

advocating for and representing our internal and external stakeholder interests

advocating for and representing BCI's interests by involving stakeholders who may be affected by BCI's decisions

managing information, developing content, and enabling effective two-way communication
