The opportunity

In this exciting new role, the AVP & National Leader, Public Sector & Large Corporate Deposits (player-coach) is responsible for leading a team of Business Development Managers, Public Sector & Large Corporate Deposits in the proactive acquisition of ?New to Bank' (NTB) deposits, and further penetration of existing client relationships for Public Sector Entities including Municipalities, Universities, Schools, and Hospitals (MUSH), Large Corporate Entities and other targeted sectors. In addition to providing team leadership, this role is also responsible for working in a sales capacity to manage existing clients and acquire NTB clients.

The successful incumbent will be focused on team success, client experience and retention, as they coach the Business Development, Public Sector & Large Corporate Deposits team to meet the needs of a diversified group of clients.

Specific Accountabilities

Public Sector & Large Corporate Deposits Development

  • Lead the Business Development Managers, Public Sector & Large Corporate to deliver on sales targets - Deposits, NTB clients, Cash Management products and services
  • Strategize, implement, and execute sales marketing plan (call program, self generated leads) to achieve deposit and targets for New to Bank (NTB) large, complex, and sophisticated clients of [$10MM or more].
  • Provide market and industry expertise and sales leadership to the MUSH business and marketing plan process
  • Help coordinate sales activities with team and inter-banking centre
  • Align individual sales business plan to annual targets as a player-coach.
  • Execute proactive sales activities that contribute to team success
  • Negotiate optimum profitability with each client relationship including deposit pricing and account fee revenue
  • Contribute to cash management development strategy for the bank
  • Actively refer to other business partners within banking centres and across CWB.
  • Devise a deposit and customer acquisition strategy for targeted sales territory, client segment, and industry sectors such as PSE, and large corporate.
  • Execute and lead call program including cold calls, self generated leads, and prospecting meetings
  • Build and maintain close relationships with Centre of Influences (COI) and referral sources such as accounting firms, lawyers, deal brokers, Business Development Corporation (BDC), public administrators, etc.
  • Effectively respond and follow-up on all types of referrals and opportunities, and proactively act on client feedback, market surveys, and client engagement programs
  • Effectively respond and follow-up on internal banking centre and partner referrals and opportunities from Corporate Banking, Commercial, Equipment Finance, Real Estate, Maxium, etc.
  • Professionally represent CWB with high visibility at business development, networking, and community events such as trade shows, industry/business associations, client seminars, and special events

Operational Support

  • Facilitate effective client onboarding by obtaining the required information and documentation, working with team members to facilitate speed & accuracy in client onboarding, activation, and implementation of products and services
  • Provide sales expertise and coverage to region markets that may have a sales or business development skill gap or underrepresented
  • Key support to corporate office on MUSH and large corporate deposit strategy & competitive intelligence
  • Adhere to CWB's policies, procedures, and code of conduct; keep current with guidelines and trends including internal training requirements
  • Ensure accurate banking regulations KYC/AML information is consistently updated and current
  • Prepare regular individual sales tracking and pipeline management, trending, and projections
  • Provide banking centre to Region/Head office feedback on trending and emerging issues and opportunities
  • Provide input to bank's annual business planning/budget process
  • Ensure Sales Pipeline report is updated, current, and accurate
  • Ensure that compliance monitoring is in place, including processes for managing operational risk in accordance with bank and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that team members are following operational guidelines for KYC and AML.
  • Oversee team participation in all Head and Regional Office requests for file audits and remedial (?clean-up?) projects.
  • Adhere to CWB's policies, procedures, and code of conduct, and keep up to date with any new or revised guidelines

Foundational knowledge and experience to grow from

Demonstrated leadership of high performing teams with 10 years' Financial Industry experience with focus on Sales and Business development. Strong background in Cash Management, Treasury Management, Payments, Merchant Services, Liquidity, and Investment products and services.

Leadership experience will include regional/district or corporate environment with proven understanding of complex interdependencies, impact, and influence skills, and can navigate and respect competing interests.

  • Finance knowledge may include a bachelor's degree in commerce, finance, or sales and marketing with experience in Cash Management, Treasury Management, Payments, Merchant Services, Liquidity, and Investment products and services.
  • Sales experience includes proven ability to successfully plan, develop, and execute strategic individual and team sales plans that have earned sales achievement recognition in awards, designations, and internal and external accolades from clients at all levels.
