This is a full-time salary role to support Avana's growth across Western Canada and beyond.

The Senior Vice President, Strategy is primarily responsible for developing, leading and guiding Avana's corporate strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an enterprise-wide Strategic Plan within twelve months of the commencement date, in conjunction with a team of consultants recently hired on a twelve-month contract basis.
  • Oversee and facilitate the annual strategic planning process. This includes leading and developing a one, three and ten-year business outlook.
  • Ensure each corporate goal, objective, and key performance indicator is supported by a thorough and aligned strategy to maximize the potential for success. You will be the champion of not just speaking of goals and objectives but ensuring steps are ideated and implemented to achieve the goals and objectives.
  • Assist with key strategic decisions and choices. Collaborate with leaders across the enterprise to deliver the best-in-class corporate and strategic planning to support Avana's short and long-term goals. Each leader offers perspective from their division's lens. The Vice President, Strategy will offer a voice of data-driven, strategic direction.
  • Delivery of Strategic Plans annually, while ensuring the operational plan, led by the Senior Vice President, Operations, is in place and aligned. Analyze and present resources needed to deliver on the annual Strategic Plan. Lead the creation, execution and monitoring phase of the Strategic Plan, including monthly oversight of progress and quarterly review meetings with leadership. Strategy development is a continuous, not periodic, process. Successful execution depends on rapid and effective decision-making. Ensure the tough decisions are being made to execute what is right, not what is easy.
  • Lead and maintain Avana's Expansion Plan. This plan is a roadmap for growing the enterprise to one billion dollars in owned assets under management.
  • Lead the development and ongoing management of progressive key performance indicators, required to achieve corporate success that is aligned to the one, three and ten-year goals.
  • Create, analyze and pursue strategic milestones that are aligned to the one, three and ten-year goals.
  • Organize ?strategy sprints' as needed to capitalize on changing market dynamics.
  • Ensure cohesive strategic synergies across all divisions to maximize impact. Collaboratively amend and rebuild internal framework to optimize the strategic analysis process, enabling seamless alignment and execution across the organization. Avana is and will continue to be a high-growth company. Maintaining alignment between divisions during this growth phase of the business cycle is crucial to the long-term strength of the organization.
  • Create new strategic focus areas to build robust long-term growth plans and execution strategies. Monitor the execution phase to ensure successful implementation.
  • Lead and manage Avana's SWOT analysis.
  • Ensure regular conduction of market research is executed, keeping up to date on CMHC and other data trends.
  • Identify and align to all expected core competencies in order to maximize the ability to succeed.
  • Identify core deficiencies throughout and strategize to strengthen and fill gaps that exist.
  • Participate in monthly reporting and status update meetings with the CEO and the Senior Leadership team to update them on the progress of Avana's strategies and goals.
  • Attend weekly leadership meetings to lead and contribute to strategic decision-making.
  • Contribute to the leadership of Avana in a proactive and meaningful way. Represent Avana's values through leadership and decision-making.
  • Work closely with the Chief Culture Officer when creating strategies and goals to ensure cultural alignment.
  • The Senior Vice President, Strategy position will be dynamic, resulting in changes to scope and job description to support the company, as necessary. Be able to work flexible hours, including additional time spent when necessary.
  • Attend and represent Avana at various community events and functions.
  • Focus on personal development and education, with and without the direct support of Avana.

Key Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be a seasoned strategic executive with a proven track record of successfully implementing initiatives that serve the accomplishment of corporate goals while adding value to the organization in a culturally aligned way.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analysis and financial models. Demonstrated ability to act strategically and think critically while focusing on driving results in a performance-driven environment.
  • This person will have demonstrated the ability to create and maintain strong relationships both externally and internally with their organizations and will be a highly respected and influential leader.
  • This leader will have excellent communication skills and offer the highest standard of strategic, critical and innovative thinking skills, business and financial acumen and decisive, well contemplated, decision-making capabilities.
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, with master's degree preferred. Sufficient work experience with a proven track record of business success may be considered.
  • Minimum of ten years of proven business leadership.
  • This position requires an experienced business leader with a track record of building effective teams to create results, who has demonstrated successful collaboration across a performance-tracked organization and possesses a unique blend of business leadership and strategic capability.
  • Ability to thrive in an ever-changing, high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • The Vice President, Strategy must be curious, innovative, proactive, strategic, data-driven and professional.
  • Be able to thrive in a purpose-led, performance-driven, unapologetically feminist environment.
  • Travel to Palm Springs may be required for up to one to two days per month, three to four months per year to meet with the CEO, and the rest of Senior Leadership.

Compensation Package:

  • Salary Range: $150,000 - $220,000, based on education and experience. Salaries are reviewed annually in October.
  • Annual Bonus: Opportunity to earn up to 10% of salary as an annual bonus.
  • Vacation Entitlement: 20 business days per year. Must be accumulated prior to taking them.
  • Benefits: Dental and medical benefits package. 80% of the cost is covered by Avana. Option for the employee to purchase disability and life insurance.
  • Group RRSP and RRSP Match Program: 2% of salary matched in year two, 3% of salary matched in year three, 4% of salary matched in year 4 and 5% of salary matched in year 5. Avana's matched portion vests 12 months after the first contribution.
  • Parental Leave: Inclusive of four (4) months of salary top-up, up to a maximum of $15,000 total, with ongoing benefits based on the terms, stated above. RRSP matching will not apply for the duration of the period of leave. If an employee provides resignation within 24 months of the paternal leave return date, the total amount of the salary top-up will be repaid to Avana.
  • Probation Period: The probation period is 90 days from the start date listed.
  • Resignation Notice: A resignation notice of 30 days is required to be provided to Avana if for any reason the employee is to resign from the organization.
  • COVID-19 Protocol: As of October 31, 2021, Avana will require all employees to be double vaccinated.
  • Criminal Record Checks are required for all Avana employees prior to being hired. This is to be obtained at your expense, and will not be reimbursed by the Employer.
