Position Overview

The Student Success Centre in the Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Grad Recruitment Strategist for approximately 6 months.

This position reports to the Director, Student Services, and is a member of the Haskayne Student Services team. The team is responsible for student services including recruitment and admissions, student advising, career and work-integrated learning program development, student engagement, and co- and ex-curricular experiential learning.

HSB currently offers the following non-thesis based graduate programs that are the focus of this position: the MBA program, the Executive MBA (EBMA) program, and the Master of Management (MMgmt) program.

This position will involve a high volume of work, high-level discretionary decision making, within a fast-paced, high-stress competitive environment of continuous change, demanding a high-functioning ability to manage multiple initiatives, meet deadlines, and balance competing priorities. Frequent local travel is required, some national and international travel may be required.

The work is of a highly complex and political nature and requires considerable sensitivity towards numerous stakeholders. Work outside of normal business hours will be required.

With guidance from the Director, Student Services, this role is responsible for the development and implementation of a graduate program recruitment plan and structure that will drive growth across all current and future HSB graduate programs.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external partners to ensure the successful delivery and continuous improvement of graduate program recruitment, as well as contributing more broadly to the Haskayne School of Business and University of Calgary brand locally, nationally, and internationally.

As a member of the Student Services leadership team, the incumbent works with the team in setting vision, strategic direction, and continuous improvement for the entire Student Services department.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Strategic Planning

  • Develop an overarching strategic plan for graduate program recruitment which defines the objectives, tactics, structure and budgets under the guidance of the Director.
  • Develop and execute annual business plan to drive graduate recruitment growth as measured by key performance indicators including program enrolment.
  • Work with marketing and communications to develop annual marketing strategies and plan to support implementation of the recruitment plan.
  • Identify and lead in implementation of technology that supports the entire recruitment process and enhances applicant experience and program enrolment.
  • Lead market intelligence initiatives and analyze and incorporate results into recruitment strategy.
  • Develop program launch plans to market and recruit for new programs as developed.
  • Develop, maintain, and nurture strategic relationships in the business community with the goal of graduate program enrolment growth
  • May support other Haskayne-led external relationship initiatives that support community building with employers and industries.

Student Recruitment

  • Engage with local, national, and international employers and industry association representatives ranging from senior level executives to hiring managers to human resources staff.
  • Maintains ongoing visible presence in the local market through in-person sales calls and execution of field sales campaigns as per the business plan in all markets.
  • Lead generation activities including cold calling, presentations, e-mail, business networking events, trade shows, career fairs and conferences.
  • Identify and prosecute on target recruitment opportunities to promote the programs leveraging appropriate channels and collateral in collaboration with other Student Services and Haskayne teams.
  • Funnel market feedback to the Director and Program Directors, with the goal of influencing programs and curriculum that makes the programs highly attractive to future students.

Leadership And Management

  • Work with the director and other managers to set vision and strategic direction for Haskayne Student Services. Ensure a successful student journey that meets and exceeds School and student expectations.
  • Collaborate with other Haskayne departments and pan-university areas to ensure objectives and strategies align.
  • Represent Student Services and at times Haskayne at external meetings and events, modeling and inspiring a high level of professionalism when dealing with stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the creation and communication of year-end reporting.
  • Management and usage of the CRM and other systems, related to business processes.
  • Promote a collaborative and cross-functional team approach to the work environment through excellent role modeling and coaching. Support staff in developing a positive, high trust working relationship with each other, cross units, and with faculty and students. Ensure staff work effectively as a team.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of related experience is required.
  • Experience in stakeholder relationship development and management, and business development, required
  • Experience in lead generation and field-based sales, required
  • Knowledge of industry, particularly within Alberta but also nationally and internationally and a strong understanding of business roles and assignments, required
  • Established contacts and an expansive network within the business community and at an industry association level, preferred
  • Strong time management, communication, negotiation, presentation, critical thinking, creative, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound judgements required
  • Diplomacy, tact, discretion, conflict resolution and ability to manage fluid expectations required
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team environment effectively, and prioritize work required
  • Strong aptitude for technology and ability/desire to learn new software is required
  • Project management skills with demonstrated success in planning, organizing, and managing projects required
  • Must be able to work under pressure with competing deadlines and to handle numerous priorities at once
