The opportunity

The AVP, Syndications & Agency will be primarily focused on the origination of lead syndication transactions and the management of the loan syndication process from origination to close with the direct support of a Senior Specialist. Engaged in the development of new initiatives, you will contribute to the overall success of CWB, ensuring individual goals, plans, and initiatives are performed and delivered in support of our business' strategic objectives. In this role, you will validate that all activities conducted are in adherence to, and in compliance with, governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead arranger & book-runner for syndicated lending transactions

  • Structuring, pricing, and delivering lead mandates.
  • Develop syndication strategies to optimize fee retention and minimize overhold risk.
  • Develop industry and product expertise with respect to opportunities within the Canadian syndicated loan market.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Champion client centric culture

  • Champions a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader CWB relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Work closely with regional deal teams to develop and deliver leading syndication mandates for existing full-service clients and select targeted prospects.
  • Demonstrates skills in developing, maintaining, and strengthening business relations with existing and new customers.

Grow and maintain syndications and agency offering portfolio

  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Mentoring and development of junior team members.
  • Lead role in creating and maintaining the syndications' database, as well as managing select vendor relationships.

Successful incumbent

This role requires an astute individual & experienced syndicated lender with a strong sense of ownership and independent accountability. A keen negotiator & influencer, you work sophisticated deals with key partners to win mandates. Problems solving know-how & communicating with professional confidence is required in this high paced environment. Client centric, sales focused, a proven educator, and you compel others to act through effective collaboration. You appreciate both the art and science of numbers, absorb & analyze complex financial information easily to formulate the ideal deal structure guaranteed to excite lenders & investors. You like a challenge and aren't afraid of hard work. Your schedule is dictated by priorities and performance, recognizing ?the what? and ?the when? in every situation to manage through to success. And you will be successful - you don't know any other way.

Core knowledge requirements

  • Graduate degree in finance would be beneficial
  • Deep knowledge of pro rata, institutional and bridge loan products, capital structuring, risk management, origination, and execution of syndicated loan structures.
  • Specific knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in Canada.
  • CFA or CBV designation would also be an asset.

Demonstrated experience

  • Minimum 7+ years corporate banking experience, with a focus on syndicated loan transactions. Demonstrated history of successful business development, including the ability to network in external markets.
  • Experience in contact negotiations with both clients and legal counsel.
