POSITION: Coordinator, Digital Marketing

The Role

The UTSU is hiring a full-time Digital Marketing Coordinator to support our outreach, engagement, and marketing efforts. The Digital Marketing Coordinator (DMC) is responsible for supporting the University of Toronto Student Union's (UTSU) Engagement team in creating and implementing digital media plans, products, and strategies, and using appropriate digital marketing technologies and methods to help achieve the UTSU's outreach and engagement objectives. They will use their creativity, technical skills, and marketing insights to maintain and evaluate the UTSU's media presence and marketing efforts, in order to elevate the awareness of the UTSU while supporting the organization's business priorities.

The DMC reports to the Manager, Content, and is a member of the Engagement team. The role requires a high degree of collaboration and communication with other teams across the organization.

The DMC is a member of the UTSU's Bargaining Unit and unionized with CUPE 1281.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities outlined below are interpreted as being descriptive in nature and are not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all possible job responsibilities, tasks, and duties.

Visual Communications and Production

  • Effectively communicate ideas through visual, graphical, and textual/typographic designs/layouts based on the requirements, objective, strategy and messaging of a project which may be an event, campaign, program promotion or publication.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with leadership, staff, or external groups, as directed/needed, to support and develop strategies for social media and other digital engagement or promotion
  • Provide estimates for the time and resources required to complete each project and clearly communicate these to project stakeholders.
  • Use required design software applications such as: Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Acrobat Pro.
  • Design, produce, and maintain everyday and advertising products such as: branding materials, posters, brochures, signage, logos, wordmarks, brand marks, and advertisements.
  • Source, commission, and edit images and videos to enhance the UTSU's digital media presence
  • Coordination of advertising materials with suppliers
  • Support the visual development of campaign ideas including close coordination across the organization, and, as needed, with external groups.

Digital Media, Analytics, and Marketing

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and identify strategies to leverage digital content and presence for the purposes of improving member engagement with the UTSU.
  • Coordinate, maintain, and manage designated UTSU web content according to the content management strategies and direction
  • In collaboration with colleagues, create, design and deploy content for marketing campaigns, including artwork, copy, scheduling, testing and identifying target audiences.
  • Conduct or support content audits to identify gaps and redundancies in communication channels
  • Compile statistics for email newsletter, brand mentions, social media and digital/advertising campaigns
  • Analyze analytics data to learn how users interact with the UTSU's communication channels, and make recommendations to improve overall engagement.
  • Tracking and analyzing results and recommending data-driven improvements
  • Regularly track and get insights into other student unions and related organizations' digital media practices and strategies.
  • Maintain digital archives and records of past and ongoing projects.
  • Maintain brand identity standards throughout the organization.
  • Stay up-to-date with digital media technologies and latest trends.

Team Collaboration and Operational Leadership:

  • Embed a student leadership approach to engagement with internal student staff and external student members
  • Maintain high performing working relationships across all teams within UTSU, to deliver high impact outcomes.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and Executives on the development and implementation of new initiatives, and for evaluation of existing initiatives.
  • In collaboration with management; train, motivate, supervise, and support performance evaluation of part-time and casual staff working on digital media activities.
  • Solicit and integrate organization-wide needs and priorities into overall strategies.
  • Work with colleagues (coordinators, managers, directors, Executives) to put into action the strategic plan of the UTSU.
  • Actively support an environment of teamwork, co-operation, performance excellence, and personal success.
  • Collaborate with UTSU staff to review existing business processes and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Actively participate in meetings, work sessions, committees and other work groups, workshops or training sessions at the UTSU
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Operational Requirements

The general operational requirements of the position are as follows

  • This is a full-time position, and requires occasional in person work at the Student Commons (230 College Street). Currently full-time staff are required in the building 3 days per week, and can work remotely 2 days per week.
  • Availability is required during the core hours of operations (9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, administered by the provisions of the Collective Agreement with CUPE 1281.
  • Work will be performed seated at a desk using a computer.
  • The UTSU may also put in place at any time its own policies which may require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with a human-rights compliant accommodation framework in place.
