Your opportunity:
Working under the general supervision of Senior Communications and Media Relations Officer and the Director, Office of the Dean, the Social Media Specialist will create compelling digital content, build engaging social media campaigns, provide web support, and advise on best practices that achieve departmental strategic plans and initiatives. This role requires a collaborative communicator with the ability to build strong relationship with stakeholders and partners. The successful incumbent will have an expert-level understanding of content creation, social media platforms and related audiences.
Your responsibilities will include:
Implementing social media campaigns
- Creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms
- Developing and editing standard operating procedures for online content production and use
- Planning and developing pre-production video ideas into outlines, scripts, and story boards
- Researching and recommending new opportunities for external collaborations and partnerships
- Researching and evaluating emerging social media platforms and partnerships
- Producing promotional and outreach materials
- Maintaining information on digital platforms
Essential Qualifications:
Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum five (5) years of related experience in digital communications and successfully implementing social media campaigns
- Proven experience conceptualizing, developing and executing high impact, social media campaigns based on departmental strategic plans
- Experience with gathering relevant information and effectively disseminating information via social media and websites
- Proven track record of recommending ideas for both internal and external audiences
- Extensive experience managing social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. in a complex organization
- Proven ability to build highly engaged social communities and maintain a presence on social media platforms
- Experience with maintaining information on a website, ensuring links are up-to-date, and technical issues are resolved
- Demonstrated experience balancing competing priorities and multiple projects concurrently and within tight timelines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strongworking knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Photoshop
- Well-informed on industry best practices and ability to identify trends using metrics
- Advanced content creation skills
- Deep knowledge of digital media platforms and audience segmentation principles, practices and techniques to successfully expand online audiences
- Well-informed on applicable copyright, access and privacy laws
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- A self-starter with a passion for new media and the latest digital and social trends

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 11 - $67,659 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $86,523. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
