The Coordinator of Fund Development & Communications supports the life of the L'Arche Winnipeg Community by inviting financial and other gifts from friends and supporters. This position is about relationships and friendships with people and organizations who know or would like to know L'Arche and appreciate the value of our work and mission. The L'Arche Tova Café also falls under this realm by providing advice and mentoring with respect to communications if required.
The mission of L'Arche Winnipeg is to make known the gifts of individuals with developmental disabilities and create a world where everyone belongs.
The Coordinator of Fund Development & Communications plans, monitors and facilitates fundraising and communications activities for the L'Arche Winnipeg community, as well as for the L'Arche Tova Café. Primary areas of focus are direct mailings, grants, corporate support, donor relations, special fundraising events and various forms of public relations, marketing and communications. Support for this position is supplied by the Assistant Secretary. This position also requires liaison with the L'Arche Winnipeg's Accounting Department.
The Coordinator of Fund Development and Communications is a Full-time position of 40 hours per week (which would include occasional evenings and weekends). There may be more than 40 hours a week required in February, March and April as the Walk with L'Arche requires extended hours. There may be other fundraising events that may also require more than 40 hours per week.
Accountable to: The Community Leader/Executive Director
CRITERIA
- Able to further the mission of L'Arche by integrating efforts in areas of communications, fundraising, and public speaking events.
- Experience and knowledge with the proven ability within a wide range of fundraising activities which would include special events, direct mail, grants, planned giving, major gifts, and fundraising concepts and trends.
- Specific expertise in identifying and writing government, foundation and corporate grants.
- Gifted relationship builder with the ability to maintain and strengthen relationships with existing donors and supporters and also to identify new relationships in the community and find new donors.
- Experience and knowledge in event planning, securing corporate sponsorship, event promotions, committee recruitment and management.
- Experience and knowledge in marketing and communications, including websites, newsletters, social media, and media relations.
- Supports L'Arche Winnipeg and the L'Arche Tova Café through social media and marketing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills
- Able to work collaboratively with staff, board members volunteers, L'Arche assistants and core members.
- Knowledge in accounting, budgeting and reporting is an asset.
- Strong computer skills, must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and fundraiser Software.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Administration
- Collaborate with the Community Leader/Executive Director, the Board of Directors, Coordinators, and other personnel as required.
- Participate in strategic planning, operational planning, and the budgeting process.
- Prepare, monitor and maintain the Fundraising and Communication budget.
- Prepare and provide monthly progress reports to the Community Leader/Executive Director and attend Finance and Audit Committee meetings.
- Work with Community Leader to develop fundraising policies and guidelines which reflect ethical fundraising practices.
- Attend formation sessions to learn about L'Arche.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Fund Development
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the fund development program and the annual fundraising strategy. This includes but is not limited to direct mailings, foundation and government grants, corporate support, special events, planned giving, major gifts and individual giving.
- Educate and encourage the support of staff, board and members as a team effort in achieving fundraising needs/efforts.
- Create and implement a multi-year development plan that increases revenues and awareness to support the strategic direction and mandate of L'Arche Winnipeg which includes the following activities:
- Identify and cultivate corporate, community and individual donors with special attention paid to major gifts.
- Grow the annual giving program, including mail campaigns, digital campaigns, third party initiatives, and special events.
- Coordinate the Christmas Appeal/Newsletter mail out in November.
- Prepare and submit grant applications and reports
- Build robust donor recognition, acknowledgement and stewardship processes and activities.
- Oversee the collection and management of information regarding donors, respecting the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.
- In conjunction with the Accounting Assistant and Accountant, oversee the receipting process, including in-kind donations and related receipts.
- Cultivate relationships with loyal and potential donors.
- Work with the volunteer coordinator to oversee the Café participation in the Biz Market Garden. Complete the Market Garden application for the Biz Market Garden.
- Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out.
- Monitor impact of campaigns and tweak strategy, when necessary, in conjunction with the Community Leader/Executive Director
- Implement the development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.
- Organize the Annual Walk with L'Arche in conjunction with the L'Arche Walk committee.
- Liaise with the Walk Committee to develop Event Plan, including marketing and communications
- Solicit event sponsorships
- Set up and Oversee registration and pledge processing.
- Preparation of Walk promotional materials such as the brochure and poster (English and French)
- Maintain Walk webpage with relevant information
Marketing & Communications
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the marketing and communications program and the annual marketing and communications strategy.
- Interpret the message of L'Arche so that it may be understood by the general public.
- Implement and maintain communication components ensuring all L'Arche supporters and potential supporters are informed and engaged in the mission of the organization.
- Educate and encourage the support of staff, board members, and volunteers as a team effort in achieving Communications goals, including social media.
- Produce the L'Arche Winnipeg Gratitude Newsletter three times per year (February, June, November) in English.
- Oversee website content and management.
- Provide and maintain an organized library of photos for L'Arche Winnipeg.
- Create special documents with graphics (ex. posters, brochures) with the Administrative Secretary's support.
- Implement a content editorial calendar to manage social media content and plan specific, timely, campaigns.
- Collect and manage information going into the social media platforms
- Participate in training and guidance provided by L'Arche Canada Communications Team
- Promote recruitment of Assistants, Walk with L'Arche fundraiser and L'Arche Tova Café.
- Attend all community events. If not able to attend you must delegate to one committee member to take pictures and videos.

- Understanding of communications, marketing, and public relations as they relate to supporting effective fundraising
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in developing donor relationships with foundations, service organizations, corporations, and individuals
- Knowledge and experience in the full fund development mix, including annual giving, events, major gifts, grants, and planned giving; experience in fundraising for capital projects is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in developing and implementing public relations, communications, and marketing strategies.
- Familiar with Salesforce (CRM)
