Position Overview

The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is looking for a temporary full time Communications and Engagement Coordinator to join its team for approximately two (2) years.
This is an excellent opportunity for a communications professional looking to excel in a position that requires high-energy, creativity, strategic thinking, and the ability to balance multiple priorities. In this role, you will develop and implement communication and engagement plans that support various corporate initiatives, including Council's Strategic Plan, the Corporate Business Plan, City operations and the division's strategic and annual plans.
Responsibilities
You will support a variety of City departments to roll out large, complex projects, activities, programs and initiatives to enhance community engagement and awareness. You will develop and deliver strategic communications plans, coordinate promotional and advertising materials, coordinate events, research, write and edit a variety of print and online material for public and media including web content, ads, media materials and more. Your demonstrated experience in public engagement will support the City in involving interested parties in decision-making processes that impact them. You will provide strategic advice to staff engaged in communication and engagement activities and proactively identify opportunities to share good news stories or respond to and mitigate emerging issues.
Requirements
Your qualifications include a post-secondary degree and considerable experience in communications, engagement and public relations, ideally focused on high-profile or large capital projects and operations. You bring strong knowledge of strategic communications and engagement processes/best practices, IAP2 principles, issues management and digital proficiency. Excellent written and spoken communication with the ability to write in a conversational tone and a background in graphic design round out your technical skill set. Municipal experience is an asset.
Compensation
$39.17 - $46.24 per hour
(Pay Grade 23, January 2023 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three-week scheduling cycle.
Additional Information
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
