What you'll do

It's safe to say, there's no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key responsibilities of the role:

  • Responsible for building trust and credibility with all Associate groups to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment by assisting Associates and DC Operations Management with the interpretation and application of Company policies, procedures and to respond to inquiries and concerns
  • Provides ongoing coaching and guidance to DC Operations Management to enhance their people management capabilities; manages onboarding of hourly Associates
  • Reviews Attendance Management program to ensure compliance and reports findings and opportunities with HRBP team
  • Supports investigations (violence, harassment, Open Door etc.), grievance/arbitration process; documenting findings, creating case summaries for meetings and developing recommendations for appropriate resolution; reviews complex cases in collaboration with HRBP
  • Assists DC Operations Management with documenting and reporting on performance issues, progressive discipline/corrective action up to and including termination; includes, creating and/or reviewing documentation to support performance discussions (Written Warnings, Performance Improvements Plans, etc.)
  • Supports non-complex disability and WSIB claims; completing required letters and monitoring weekly reports
  • Partners closely with Claims to track non-occupational medical leaves and related early/safe return to work processes; coordinates and supports return to work plans with DC Operations Management teams to ensure appropriate modified work opportunities for short term and long term absences are maximized with minimal impact on the business
  • Manages non-medical leaves (compassionate, maternity, parental leaves) and supports related inquiries (e.g. leave of absence requirements, enrolment/changes to Group Benefits, Group RRSP, Employee Family Assistance Program etc.)
  • Supports Health and Safety initiatives and practices in the workplace, including adherence to applicable legislative requirements (i.e. OHSA, WSIB, etc.) and Company safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining HR reporting tools to capture and distribute meaningful data; partners with HRBP teams to leverage data insights to inform training programs, onboarding and other HR program initiatives
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements, as relates to HR processes, procedures and compliance, develops recommendations for consideration
  • Remains current in market trends, best practices, legislation changes and labour relations practices
  • Participates on annual and special projects / committees as needed

What you'll need

To begin your career with us, you'll have:

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in Human Resources, experience in Associate and Labour Relations (application/administration of collective agreements) preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant provincial and federal employment legislation
  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources, preferably in Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration or similar relevant field; HR designation is an asset Experience in
  • Proven ability to use information in developing reports, plan and solutions that meet department needs; with ability to interpret information accurately
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, Oracle,and Kronos Time Management systems experience preferred
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills including negotiation, interviewing, information gathering and active listening skills; ability to develop highly effective working relationships by building credibility, respect and rapport with internal and external partners;
  • Excellent interpersonal, people management and customer service skills to provide advice, guidance to respond to inquiries or resolve issues, conflicts or problems
